Is it possible to backup iCloud Drive onto QNAP?

Post by bokr71 »

Hi,

Our entire family uses Apple devices, and my daughter and wife store files in iCloud, and I wonder if it is possible to set it up so that the NAS backs up their respective iCloud Files? The work is usually done on iPads, so it is not possible to backup files directly from the units, but it would have to be from iCloud.

Anyone?

hmmm, so setting up a Windows VM on the QNAP, install iTunes, which will create a sync with iCloud Drive, and that effectively will put the iCloud Drive files on the NAS...

I am not a VM or Windows buff - is that relatively simple? Can I simply create a Windows 10 VM on the QNAP, and can I have that start up, and close down, autonomously?

I guess for the 3 iCloud accounts, I could simply create Users in Windows...

I'm interested in this for similar reasons (my family uses iPhones; I prefer Android). This topic might offer a solution, haven't tried it yet, but basically Acronis instead of iCloud.

Thus far I have the VM running, and using different accounts, they download the iCloud drives, which are then stored on the NAS. Now if I could just figure out a way to start/stop the VM on command...

It is possible to backup your iCloud files on your QNAP if you have a MacBook or iMac.

MacOSX usually syncs your iCloud folder to your Mac if you have enabled iCloud on your Mac.
With QSync, you can setup a sync between your local iCloud folder on your Mac and your QNAP. You need to install Qsync on your Mac and Qsync Central on your QNAP.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do this directly from an iPhone or iPad.
