best backup/sync system

Post by alain.roger »

Hi,

i purchased a TS-873 where i have a pool for RAID6 HDD, where my computers synchronization of data is done between computers and NAS.
In order to backup this RAID6, i have another NAS and external USB disks.

I would like to have an application to sync everyday (scheduled) from TS873 to second NAS, and to ext. USB.

what is the best app for that which is run by TS-873 ?

thx for feedback.

same as suggested above.

but specifically my hbs job settings is as follows (may not be what you necessarily use, but just as an example)

TS-877 to a ts-653a on the same lan.

RTRR one way sync > remote (although i will be backing up on lan).

delete extra files (meaning anything on the backup not matching the main NAS source, will be deleted. If you have stuff on backup NAS that you know is not on the main NAS, then don't select this. As for me, all my data is on the main NAS, so i expect the backup to match it perfectly, so i enable this option)

check file contents (slows the backup but reduces chances for mistakes during backups. i recommend enabling this)

filter temp files enabled

do not take snapshot for this job

for backup to ext usb you can create another job for that in HBS (This should be under the external backup tab in HBS). EXT usb you plug in direct to the qnap for the best performance.

I'm back with few questions:

1. RTRR is not available under firmware 4.4.1. At least i was not able to find it in App center from QNAP store.
therefore i found HBS 3.0 only

2. HBS 3.0 allow to ONLY BACKUP data FROM my ext. USB disk to... remote server, FTP or cloud. But i'm not able to select Ext. USB disk as SOURCE of file. Why ? it is online as i mapped it under ubuntu PC. What's going wrong ?
I would like to SYNC (not necessary backup) some folders from QNAP NAS to ext. USB disk.

File explorer in NAS find it without any issue

thx
