[QPKG] HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 3.0.200529 released

Post by Toxic17 »

HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 3.0.200529 (2020/06/05)

[New Features]
  • Added support for AWS Signature Version 4 to S3 compatible.
  • Added support for luckycloud S3 storage service.
  • Added support for Google Cloud Archive storage.
[Enhancements]
  • You can now choose to share anonymized HBS data with QNAP, in order to improve future products.
  • Added debug log to job options, to help debug failed jobs.
  • The option "Only compare file size and modification time date" is now enabled by default for one-way sync jobs, to help reduce download costs.
  • You can now select a specific bucket when adding an Amazon S3 or S3 Compatible account to HBS.
  • When creating a cloud backup job, you can back up directly to the root storage space without creating a subfolder.
  • Added option "Compare only file size and modification date during first scan" for Azure one-way sync jobs.
[Fixed Issues]
  • In certain circumstances, files modified locally were not updated in the cloud.
  • While executing a remote restore, if you selected a remote NAS running firmware 4.2.6 and there were a large number of subfolders, HBS could not open the remote source folder.
  • Setting a rate limit for cloud synchronization jobs had no effect.
  • If the QTS system port was set to a non-default port, the HBS user interface would display an error.
  • Scheduled jobs would not execute correctly if the NAS time zone was set to one of the following locations: Amsterdam, Belgrade, Casablanca, Helsinki, London, Sarajevo.
  • Czech and German characters in file names were encoded incorrectly during cloud backup jobs.
Regards Simon

There's an undocumented and interesting change in this release that may have an effect on data transfer rates. The differentiated services code point (DSCP) of HBS 3 related packets has been changed from the default of 0x00 (Best Effort) to 0x01 (LE - Least Effort - https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc8622)

Though this is unlikely to have any effect on how your ISP handles the traffic, since most ISPs ignore/clear DSCP values, it may change the bandwidth allocation/usage within your LAN/Internet gateway. LE is designed as a 'scavenger' class, in other words it mops up what bandwidth is left from doing 'more important' things general browsing/video conference/VOIP etc, so this isn't necessarily a bad thing. However in my particular LAN DSCP arrangement, I have 'bittorrent' traffic as 'LE' so, for me, this change effectively puts my backups in the same class as bittorrent whereas what I really want is backups to be slightly more important than bittorrent.

My 5 class scheme is 'LE' = Least Effort = bittorrent, BK = bulk = backups/long term up/downloads, BE = Best Effort = default = normal web traffic, VI = 'Video' = Video conferencing/streaming/facetime/zoom/skype, VO = 'Voice' = VOIP/low rate but highly important traffic/low jitter.

I've tweaked my gateway DSCP remapping rules to cope with qnap's change and overall I regard it as a positive thing, however a 'DSCP override' option in the HBS gui would get a gold star from me. :)

Is there an updated ETA for HBS V3.0.200619? We're about 2 weeks past the original ETA now.

I have been running HBS v3.0.190829 with Version Management (0hr,6day,4week,12month)
And I now have about >20 versions of backups.
Last time I update to HBS v3.0.190829, I lost previous backup versions. And ever since have refrained from updating HBS.

If I were to update, will I lose the old backup versions?
Can I keep the backup versions? If so how?
thanks!

To Qnap:
Why the heck did you rename and re-do Backup Station? I finally found my (very important) five rsync jobs I run every day to backup this NAS to all my other NAS' (1 - Multimedia to the TS-231, 2 - Multimedia to the XigmaNAS, 3 - Multimedia to the TS-101, 4 - Public to the TS-231 and 5 - Public to the TS-101) in some "hip" named app called HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync. I didn't think of my backup jobs as sync so I didn't find my jobs right away. There was some trepidation on my part for a moment but the jobs are there.

I had some squirrelly issues with v4.5.1.1456 b20201015 firmware and subsequent upgrade to v4.5.1.1461 b20201020 (some Python memory leak in Network & Virtual Switch, see details here) yet when the system was stable enough last night it did perform the backups under the v4.5.1.1456 b20201015 firmware. This morning I downgraded to 4.4.3 and forced the jobs to run (normally they run at night) with this new backup station app HBS3 (much easier to type than "HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync" :) ). I found every job indicated completed and successful with HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync on firmware v4.4.3.1439 b20200925.

On the plus side no more re-arranging columns in Backup Station to see all the info for each job and there appears more data in the HBS3 app. Thanks Qnap. :geek:
