HBS 3 ver 14.0.1215 gets bogged down at 5%

Post by alokeprasad »

This is a BU of the NAS to an external USB3.1 drive. The drive has been checked by WD utilities (full surface scan) and shows no SMART errors. The USB drive is freshly NTFS formatted in QTS.
Version control is on, QuDedup is off.

After about 5 minutes, the job gets really slow (and keeps getting slower).

Here are some screenshots showing the progress and the job settings. Smart versioning is enabled.

Any idea whats going on?

I have the exact same problem. Stuck at 5%. BU to ext. drive (8tb EasyStore) via USB 3.1.

First I tried BU and it kept stopping arbitrarily. Then I created a "sync" and now it's stuck at 5% for the past 24 hours. With Sync I can look at which files have been copied -- and, yes, only about 5% have been and nothing more. I've stopped and restarted it, and it copied a few more but is stopped again.

Something is seriously wrong with this version of HBS 3 backing to external drives. My other cloud backups are still operating fine.

Also look the Remaining Files size below! I don't have 129 TB! I think this is supposed to be 1.29TB !!

I’m ignorant but it it is not to do with too small a log file is it? Could set it to 1024 instead of the default 10.

Where do you set the log file size for HBS?
I have never changed that and BU's used to work. This must have been introduced in the recent HBS version update.

I checked the other thread. No one has any solutions besides abandoning HBS!

Their descriptions read just like mine. The BU slowing to a virtual stop at 5% in every case is a giveaway. Also, not all such BU's are to USB drives. So, it is some basic bug with HBS...

Several fixes in new HBS version 15.0.0128, like the not changing 5%.

Yay! A new firmware update is out as well.

HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 15.0.0128 ( 2021/02/03 )
[Fixed Issues]
- When executing an RTRR sync job, the displayed status would stop at “Syncing…5%” and then jump directly to “Success”.
- One-way sync jobs to OneDrive for Business would fail if the filename and file path were too long.
- Could not create an rsync job from Synology Hyper Backup to a QNAP encrypted shared folder through the rsync server in HBS 3.
- After updating HBS 3 on certain NAS models, one-way sync job reports would fail to provide certain information.
- The total capacity of a connected Google education account would not display as unlimited.
- One-way sync jobs to HiDrive would finish with an error if the total file size was over 2GB.
- On certain NAS models, HBS 3 would take too long to stop when the NAS was preparing for a system reboot.
- After creating and successfully running a QuDedup-enabled backup job to a Google cloud service, if you deleted some files from the source and ran the backup job again, the job would fail but the system log would indicate that the user had stopped the job.
- After successfully running an rsync job from Ubuntu to a NAS via the Ubuntu command line, and then restarting the NAS, running the job again via the Ubuntu command line would fail with an authentication error.
- When creating a backup job to a Google Cloud Storage space, selecting an existing bucket would return a file error.
- Fixed some minor bugs.

Sad to say, but the new HBS v 15.0.0128 is worse off. It is truly stuck (not even sloooowly transferring files like the previous version)

This is nuts!
I don't have a good backup of my NAS data in a month.

22 hours and HBS hasn't even finished estimating the size of the Backup!

Setting as in here

The suggestion came from the end of here:

Good luck.

Increasing the log file size 1024 MB did not work. The job still got stuck at 5%.

I split up the job into multiple pieces. The backup of the Multimedia directory (on the NAS) that has many small files, completed.

I've also found that small files are OK, but when it tries a 90MB file it just loops round endlessly.
The sync gets so far and then just starts again. Sometimes it gets 30% of the way through, sometimes 60%, sometimes other percentages, but never 100%.
I don't have this problem with either Dropbox or GoogleDrive sync.
I never had a problem with the old CloudDriveSync and I'd like to give that another go, but as it's obsolete I can't find a qpkg file, unless someone has one that they'd like to donate :)
I think the last version was 2.1.440

Yes, it appears the only viable short-term solution is to abandon HBS.

There are many other apps in the altapp store. Which one is closest to HBS in functionality?

Thoughts?

I am having the same problem but with only one file on a Backup Sync to OneDrive. The backup syncs for all of my other folders (Documents, Pictures, Home Movies) work fine. However I've noticed that the backup sync for my Outlook PST file hangs at 5%. I've done some testing and determined that it seems to have a problem with larger files. My PST file is about 1.3 GB. I tried the same example with movies that are over 2 GB and get the same result. It doesn't error out it just hangs at 5% for as long as you let it go. This just started happening about a week ago. I'm not sure if there was a recent update to HBS that caused this to happen or if my outlook file just grew to a size that hit the limit. Either way if anyone can suggest an alternative I'd appreciate it. I used to use Cloud Drive Sync but it looks like it's no longer compatible with the recent versions of QTS.
