HBS3 - can't choose desired IP address, job fails

Post by phxazcraig »

I have a simple backup system, yet I cannot get it to do what I want because QNAP/HBS3 only uses the primary IP address.

My system: Two TS-451+. each with two network connections.
Primary IP address is 192.168.101.a and 192.168.101.b. If I use these addresses, everything works, but it puts all the backup traffic on the primary LAN. I want to use the second ethernet interface in each QNAP to do the backup and keep the backup traffic there. Can't be done in my config due to lack of a menu entry to select the IP address to be used for LOCAL STORAGE.

Second IP address: 192.168.201.a and 192.168.201.b. Here is where I want the traffic. I have a separate switch connecting the 201.x LAN together. There is no router connecting the 101.x and 201.x, other than the QNAP's themselves.

DESIRED CONFIG: Hybrid Backup Sync on QNAP1 connecting to HBS on QNAP2 using only the 201.x LAN doing one-way active sync. (Can't be done.)
On QNAP1 I set up the HBS sync job, pointing to backup sync target 192.168.201.b. So far so good.
On QNAP2 I look at incoming job, and it fails. Looking at the logs I can see the connection is trying to link 192.168.201.a (source) to 192.168.101.b (local NAS storage space). And this just will not connect.

All I need is a way to define the local NAS storage space on QNAP2 to listen on 192.168.201.b instead of 192.168.101.b. But there is no option to define the IP address for local NAS storage space.

Is there a command line way to get into some config file and fix this?

Primary IP address is 192.168.101.a and 192.168.101.b.
IPv4 addresses are numeric-only - alpha characters like "a" or "b" are not allowed. ;)

If you're describing private IP address allocations, please post them in-full - no censorship required.

Holy ****, you have a problem with variables in an IP address?

OK, here is the IP addressing, for real. OK, "a" is 99 and "b" is 97. Or do I need to actually spell this out?

QNAP1 192.168.101.99, 192.168.201.99
QNAP2 192.168.101.97, 192.168.201.97

QNAP1 is the source. I am trying to active sync a bunch of photo-related folders to folders of the same name in QNAP2, using whatever backup tool exists on my TS-451+. On QNAP1, I simply select the source folders, add in a destination IP address (I want to use 192.168.201.97) and type in the folder names to be created. On QNAP2 I select Local Storage, and it automatically chooses an IP address of 192.168.101.97. I have no place to edit the IP address to change it to 201.b, sorry 192.168.201.97.

I have even tried going into the network services option and disabling rrtr on the primary IP address (192,168.101.97), but it still will not work. QNAP2 HBS3 insists on receiving the traffic only if addresses to the 101.97 address and rejects the connection to the 201.97 address. I'm pretty sure the traffic is received on QNAP2 because errors show up with both IP addresses (101 and 201). In Network Services, I have RRTR enabled on both IP addresses. I've tried disabling RRTR on the 101.97 interface, and it still doesn't accept a job going to the 201.97 address.

Ugh... it's too-early in the morning for me to be bothered dealing with arrogant jerks... I'm out.
