Automatic backup between two QNAP NAS over Internet

If I have two TS-431P3 units at different locations, can they be setup to automatically backup what is on NAS 1 to NAS 2 over the Internet?

establish a site2site vpn with capable routers/devices..never expose any part of your qnaps to wan directly

I wasn't planning to expose them to the Internet. Can one device backup automatically to the other even on the same network?

well ..how are the units seeing each other ? ..

on a LAN ..they can reach each other no problem

over the internet...how would you want to do it here ?
