HBS application error, how to fix??

Post by tommls »

It says 'HBS has encountered an unknown error and cannot start normally.'
Clicking 'Restart HBS' does not fix this, nor does rebooting the NAS, nor does stopping and restarting the app/service.
Removing and reinstalling the app does not fix it either.
How do I fix this??
I need it to back up stuff on the NAS to other NAS devices in the network.
Thank you, Tom

It's definitely the new version of HBS 3 that caused it.
HBS opened properly before updating it, now it does not open...
How do I downgrade to an older version?? -- and where/how do I *get* an older version??
I need to get this fixed soon!! :)
Thank you, Tom

What NAS?
What firmware?
What HBS version ?

If you have issues with Qnap programs, best to contact Qnap via ticket (they do not come here)

TS-453Be NAS
Firmware version 4.3.6.0959 Build 20190531
HBS version 3.0.210810 (when I hover over it) -- this is after uninstall and reinstall the app and it does not work

viewtopic.php?t=154529 -- I tried uninstalling and reinstalling using this procedure, to no avail.

I had the same issue after updating to HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync 3.0.210810.

I was able to resolve it by manually downloading a previous version (3.0.210506) and doing a manual install. I will ignore the app update reminder until they resolve the issue with another update.

Go to the App Center and select the options for your NAS model and firmware version then try selecting firmware versions older than the current version on your system and see if HBS has a recent version that isn't the latest broken version.

QNAP TS-870 Pro. Firmware 4.3.6.1750

Edited for firmware clarification.

I can try again with getting 210506 -- how were you able to get earlier versions??
The app center only allows me to download 210810, how do I make it allow me to get 210506 or earlier versions??
Thank you, Tom

Actually I simply chose a lower firmware version and was able to get 210506 but nothing earlier.

For me I started selecting previous firmware versions until I got an earlier HBS version in the list. For example I have QTS 4.3.6 which lists 3.0.210810 along with firmware 4.3.5. But if I go to firmware 4.3.4 it lists 3.0.210506. Hope that helps. :-)

You'll need to adjust for your device and firmware version in case the package is different but this is what I selected for my TS-870 Pro.

I removed the current version, then rebooted the Qnap, I am waiting for it to finish rebooting then I will try manually installiing the 210506 version, which I was able to get. Thank you, Tom

Cool. Hopefully that is a valid workaround for everyone with the issue until a fixed version is released.
I just stopped the HBS service and installed 3.0.210506 over 3.0.210810 and it started right up and started working as soon as 210506 finished installing.

Installing the 210506 version brought it back to life.
Will ignore subsequent version upgrades, obviously a bug.
Thank you for your help!! :) tom

Obtained older version 3.0.3.0.210506.
Removed existing 3.0.210810 version, rebooted.
Manually installed 3.0.210506 version.
HBS 3 starts correctly.
Qnap has *obviously* deployed a buggy version with 3.0.210810.
It's Qnap's responsibility to fix this software.

Same here.
Uninstalled 3.0.210810
Installed 3.0.210506
Some SMB backup jobs are missing...
But it works again! Thanks.
