How to download MP4 from a site that requires a username/password?

Postby jdhindsa » Sat Jul 15, 2017 8:54 pm

I'm trying to use Download Station 5 to download some MP4 (videos) from one of my work sites. The site requires a username and password to access the video content. Everytime I login to the site and copy the link to the MP4 file and paste it into Download Station, I only get an HTML login page downloaded. The MP4 file never actually downloads.

Is there somewhere in Download Station where I'm supposed to configure a username and password along with the "root" URL of the site (or the login page for the site)?

I'm running TS-451+.

are you sure your login credentials even work? try test with your browser to access via login then download using say chrome.

if i'm not mistaken, you could edit your url to include the username and password, this was what i did when i needed to enter a url which required login credentials.

It is indeed not possible to pass the username and password via query parameters in standard HTTP auth. Instead, you use a special URL format, like this:

Code: Select all

-- this sends the credentials in the standard HTTP "Authorization" header. will works for FireFox, Chrome, Safari BUT not for IE. ... parameters
