Watch folder for Torrents?
Hello all,
I would like to be able to place a Torrent file in a folder and have Download Station see that file and start performing the download.
I saw a thread that suggested I SSH into the QNAP and then use the following command: "ln -sf /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.torrent /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Download/Torrent"
The command did move my Torrent folder but Download Station didn't seem to be watching the folder or if it did, it would not start a download of a file I manually placed in that folder.
Download Station would download files that we dragged into the program...but a manual copy to the folder did nothing.
Has anyone had any success with something like this ?
Thanks in anticipation of any assistance
Cheers,
Chris

Put your Torrent data files there, or install QGet on your other devices.chrisrizzuto wrote:/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.torrent
This should work for you until you upgrade to QTS 4.2.0.

Switch to Transmission. It still works under QTS 4.2.0.chrisrizzuto wrote:Hmmmm, so that's the problem

But, I just trained my wife how to use Download Station. Do you know what it is like have to retrain someone who hates computers.
Can I use them simultaneously?
And just out of curiosity, why is QTS 4.2 a problem? Is it just because it is still considered BETA?

Don't ask me. Ask QNAP. Yes you can use Transmission and Download Station simultaneously. I seldom use Download Station here.chrisrizzuto wrote:But, I just trained my wife how to use Download Station. Do you know what it is like have to retrain someone who hates computers.

Re: Watch folder for Torrents?
The beauty of Download Station is the simplicity of the search for people who don't get the torrent thing. I will use both and setup Transmission to watch my folder while she uses the Search Engine built-in to Download Station.
Thanks very much for your help....I never thought to use both Engines and that solves everything for me !

Re: Watch folder for Torrents?
I can't really help with that part. I use "Google" for finding torrents here. When I click on a "torrent" found via Google it opens in my "Remote Transmission GUI" installed on my PC's, or on "Remote Transmission" on my cellphone/tablet.
I also have a Transmission client add-on within Kodi on the NAS.

Re: Watch folder for Torrents?
QNAP Download Station does not support a torrent watch folder.
Considering the trend does go away from distributing torrent files towards magnet links I can't see any importance.

Re: Watch folder for Torrents?
It does serve purpose as a blackhole enabled client for various automation utilities (Eg. Sickbeard/Rage/Couchpotato et al.) as there are no integration plugins for them.

Re: Watch folder for Torrents?
I would also be keen to see this feature working again. Its a pain having to go into download station and adding the file seperately
Plus i dont think i can handle the pain of setting up transmission after struggling with sonarr, sickrage, nzbget and sabnzbd
