FileZilla or other FTP Client for QNAP NAS?

Post by B1ggJoe »

Hey Everyone,

I'm still pretty new to QNAP. Is FileZilla available for the latest QNAP QTS or if not, another similar FTP Client? I saw FileZilla available at QNAP Club. However, after purchasing and installing it, I couldn't get it to work. Then I found out that it appears to only work with a specific model QNAP NAS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

i've used filezilla and quite happy with it.

winscp is also another app i use. i can even access putty from it as for ssh console access (have to enable ssh in qts)

If the app comes bundled with malware, you could try using ninite which usually removes all the junkware
https://ninite.com/

PS: i use the apps from my desktop and laptop.

i find winscp especially useful when i need to browse deep into the qnap root directories, which i can't seem to do from windows 10 explorer.

u want to install a qpkg in qnap?

ooo i thought you meant to run from a desktop/laptop to access the qnap from :X (this is how i use these apps normally)
https://ninite.com

hm... well there is this?
https://www.qnapclub.eu/en/qpkg/552

you can access the filezilla from the qnap hdstation (either use the remote access option, or to connect a hdmi between qnap and monitor + mouse +keyboard and access it that way)

alternatively i know it's possible to simply run a VM windows 10, then install whatever app you need on the qnap.

or use container station (docker)
This is a Docker container for FileZilla.

The GUI of the application is accessed through a modern web browser (no installation or configuration needed on client side) or via any VNC client.

By the way what qnap model are you using :'

Thank you Moogle! I have a TVS-473. I purchased Filezilla from the QNAP Club, but I am having trouble getting it to actually run.

It appeared to have installed correctly and the Service does start, However I don't see where I can actually launch it LOL.

Aaaah ok, makes sense. Instead of that, what if I do a remote session? Will that work instead?

As this is becoming rather involved, I’ve got to ask: what is it you’re trying to do? Why do you want FileZilla running on the NAS?

@OneCD,

I want the ability to connect to several of my remote servers and download files directly onto the NAS. I was thinking about using 'rsync' or some other form of file transfer method. However, I like the level of control from an FTP Client like Filezilla, so that I can connect via (S)FTPS.

Have you investigated the remote mount feature in File Station?

@OneCD,

I have not. Thank you! I haven't been able to dive-in to my NAS yet, but this will be fun.

Thanks again!
