Any way to increase upload speed? (torrent)

Post by Jooki »

Since last week i had dsl and upload was the ** but now i have ftth 600MB symmetrical and I thought that i would upload like a mofo but now I downloaded something and the upload is just 90kb/s when it could be 60MB/s...

The top speed i've seen for a couple of somethings was 1,56MB/s which is still pretty low.

I have the TCP port range 6881-6889 forwarded to mys NAS's IP and the DNS on my NAS and modem.router are the same.

Any ideas on how to increase it?

if the torrent client settings are not sufficient, you could try installing transmission qpkg or another torrent client. then google for settings guide for optimized speeds.

but mostly it comes down to your own connection. you need to run speed test to check what your broadband is capable of. also not sure if your ISP throttles p2p torrent or not.

thx for answering.

download speed is great, 60MB/s but upload ** a lot, if i do speed tests i get the same 60MB/s upload and i can't even come close to that on utorrent.

I wasnt much concerned when i had dsl but now i'd like to share all i can.

you would ideally want to pair p2p with a vpn

doubt you find a free one with speeds you expect

servers need to be paid

obviously, thats why i dont break me balls lookin for it, nothin is free in this life.

but this is not what this post is about :D

ive been thinking and the only explanation i find is that my isp is throtling the upload speed only, its the way to do something about it but not have the paying customers moanin about it.

upload thottling could very well be the case

only way to prevent this would be a vpn or torrent client with protocol obfuscation(if that even works still)

I also have ftth and I'm currently seeding ~40TB worth of torrents and have no issues with upload speeds when I add a new torrent to the tracker. I use qtransmission with the following settings:

global peer limit 7500
maximum download unchecked
maximum upload unchecked
Download queue size unchecked
Upload queue size unchecked
Consider active torrents as stalled when idle for unchecked
Seed ratio unchecked
Stop seeding when inactive for unchecked

The speed that you upload at will also depends on the speed your peers are capable of downloading at. I rarely see any one peer download at speeds greater than 15MB/s or so, but I routinely see a single torrent being downloaded at speeds greater than 50 MB/s when all peers are combined.

I am also lucky that my ISP does not throttle, and last month my usage was over 30TB. :D

Thank you for replying, i haven't tried qtransmission yet, but i will try it this afternoon and see for myself.

don't know if that is still the case but download station was based on a very old client (mainline?) and many clients and trackers did reject it
