Have you tried and set the streaming file format to "Original", as I explained in my previous post?

I have, works fine now, cheers. At least I know i have a backup if Twonky falls over :)
I am new to NAS / Linux (01FEB2016 - be gentle), but pride myself as being a reasonable technological problem solver :'

I too noticed that most of the videos work with the "original" format, but not all. Some videos recorded with a specific video camera do not work (dont remember the format).

However, I've got problems even with pictures! Simple JPEG does not open with my Samsung 9 series. Seriously, my ten year old NAS and its dlna server can handle this, but not my new qnap NAS!?

Decided to install ubuntu and twonky which seem not to have any issues with the same pics and videos.

QNAP DLNA suprised me with two new features.

1. Does serve 'network unreachable' in my gigabit LAN
2. Cause full crashes from playing m4v movies from the NAS, need many media library restarts to fix that temporary
3. Does scan several hours for 30k mp3 and 200 movies

Alternatives required, like to have my old minidlna back.

We shouldn't have to. I must say qnap firmware is not what I expected.

Keep in mind it goes away with 4.3.2 and requires purchasing a license from Twonky.
4.3.2 ??? are you sure?
Your signature says 4.2.4, the same as I'm running since the last update. And I still have Twonky.

4.3.2 is higher than 4.2.4, though. This might be the reason why we still have Twonky.

BTW, I asked QNAP whether this is true, but they didn't give me an answer.

It happened so often also with my TS-269L and Samsung JU7000 (JU7100) smart tv, than I moved to Synology NAS with its DS Video app for Samsung Tizen just for video streaming.
Then I learned that DSM Photo Station is miles ahead of sub-amateur QTS Photo Station, so I transferred all my photo library from QNAP to Synology (while for non-multimedia use I still prefer QTS over DSM).
miniDLNA is also great :P but AFAIR does not auto-create thumbnails (my family needs them) - you may want to create and add thumbnails manually (then miniDLNA serves thumbnails to your player).

Moved to twonkyserver from Qnapclup, they offer it as native app and not within a docker cage. But had to pay the license, so thumbs down for QNap.

There are no movies thumbnails in Twonky, are they?

My qnapclup Twonky do create thumbnails for movies, but this can take hours. Same for fresh .flac files where the folder.jpg and possibility to serve them transcoded appear several minutes later.

Just an update on the streaming file format I mentioned some time ago:
solitone wrote:I looked around at different settings, and entered the Advanced Settings section, then went to the Media Receivers section. From there, I've set the streaming file format to "Original" (it was "Auto detect", as the default option) for all media receivers, and now several videos can be played.
From version 430.1.2.0 of the Media Streaming Add-On videos are streamed in their original format by default, and this cannot be changed, so that option is no longer there. From the change log:
Media Streaming add-on 430.1.2.0
( 2017/03/16 )
[Enhancement]
- Videos are now streamed to DLNA media devices in their original formats without transcoding.
