Hello
I am about to buy a TVS-473e.
I currently use a Nvidia Shield TV with kodi18.
Obviously I would like to continue using kodi.
Is it possible to still use Kodi 18, even without it being offered on the officiel app store? (sorry, I come from synology so I don't know the QNAP world for now).
I use kodi for both video and music.
I often use my smartphone to control kodi when I play music.
In this case I don't need my tv screen to be powered, and I would like to connect the NAS directly via USB to my USB DAC : does it work this way?
Thanks
Nicolas

you will find the shield to be a much better and quieter kodi player
but here is kodi from a 3rd party repo

I already have a shield. I just want to have less devices.

I understand .. but the shield is a MUCH better player than the QNAP is
Also the QNAP has no HDMI 2.x and no 10bit HEVC decoding support .. the shield has all that

Re: TVS-473e + kodi + usb DAC
Ok, makes sense...
So maybe instead of a tvs-473e I should go for a ts-473 ? Maybe with a ssd cache? Should I look for a compatible graphic card to end up installing kodi on the nas to have a local library (instead of nfs) ?
Any recommendation?
I'd like a 4 bay that is kind of futureproof for a few years.
I have been using a synology DS1511+ for the last 7 years, so a nas is not something I'm keen to change every other year...
Also when I look on the Qnap website, latest QTS sems to be 4.3.6 ans qnasclub seems to require QTS 4.4.4 for some packages like Kodi Leia (kodi 18). Any reason to that?
Last, but VERY important question as I would like to use a headless kodi on the nas for music : can I connect a usb port of the ts-473 to my usb DAC?
Thanks a million times

Re: TVS-473e + kodi + usb DAC
well .. with an external player, there is no need to swap the NAS often ..
I have an old 419p+ (2010 model ARM powered no video output) and that still serves well, even DLNA with 4K HDR files works just fine
Only thing that has changed over the years are the players
In regards to QTS 4.4.4 only a few NAS units have gotten that firmware yet .. more will follow but only QNAP knows when
here is a thread discussing KODI 18 on 4.3.x
viewtopic.php?f=295&t=146654
can't help much as I don't connect any video output to my QNAP (I have also a 951X) ..just too much hassle

kodi 17.5 installs easily.
But 4k is not readable correctly. constantly buffering
