Why QNAP stopped supporting LMS is a puzzle. Yes, Logitech stopped building Squeezebox products years ago, but even they realized the avid Squeezebox community was large enough that Logitech in it's own interest, still maintains the squeezebox.com audio site at a nominal cost to the company. To do otherwise would ** off a bunch of existing Logitech customers needlessly.
QNAP has not boarded the cluetrain on this LMS issue. A whole lot of tech suave QNAP customers still use LMS and can build their own inexpensive LMS compatible audio amplifier/speakers using Raspberry Pi, so the hardware lives on. These LMS folks post on forums, lots of them. Think of the positive PR QNAP could earn if they restored support for LMS. The LMS software is expertly maintained by volunteers to this day. Music serving is a huge use case for retail NAS users in general and QNAP users certainly.
What is QNAP thinking ? Their developers already push an avalanche of annoying mid-ling app updates of questionable utility, wasting users time to apply to QNAP-OS, but ignore an entire swath of LMS users who will in the long run remain more loyal to their Squeezebox eco-system than they may to QNAP.
QNAP - please support LMS officially. You don't have to code new features, just integrate it with QNAP OS every once in awhile. And please consider reducing the flush of minor app updates burdening those of us who review updates for security reasons before processing an update.

The package QLMS runs LMS brilliantly and fully integrated. 41k installs. Available on QNAPCLUB. You can ask why QNAP don’t bundle that package but then since it’s out there - why bother?

Re: QNAP - Please restore Offical sanction of LMS
IIRC, QNAP removed its official support of LMS when one of the LMS packages had a security vulnerability (Shellshock Bash) which required the user to jump through some manual command line hurdles to fix. When LMS was later released in a Docker container, that issue went away, as did the need for QNAP to do anything in particular to support LMS. Within Container Station, it just works.
