Hello,
I have a media cache on my TS-431k.
I want to be able to access from my lptop when i am not t home (as well as at home) like when i travel for work, i can watch things on my NAS over the hotel wifi on my laptop.
Now I have read there are several ways of doing this.
Who has tested one\some personally?
Which worked the easiest and best?
Can you provide instructions for this, or a link?
Thanks

Re: Question regarding streaming over internet on TS-431k
There is several ways..some have cost many people all their data or a lot of cash (Malware infection by exposing the QNAP and it's interface to WAN directly)
Best and safest method is the connection via VPN (server on your router..no..that does not cost anything)
Alternative would be something like Plex, but transcoding would be a nogo on that NAS (too weak)

Oh just make a VPN top go from my laptop back to my home network then the normal drive map just works. Yeah that makes sense.
I will look into the router option.

Caveat would be (depending on your home upload and hotel wifi download speed) that some files could have issues with playback
If you have and old(ish) PC around with horsepower or iGPU(plaxpass needed) you could use that for a Plex server that would manage the transcoding depending on your available speed)
