external hard drive and media streaming

Post by sueaqg »

I've almost filled my internal hard drives on my QNAP269. I've attached an external hard drive to the USB 3 port of the NAS. I can access it and drop files onto it from my computer. Does anyone know had to add an external hard drive folder as a media folder for DNLA streaming for use with the built in QNAP streamer? When I select "add new media folder" I can't see the external hard drive or any folder on it, just the folders on the internal hard drives. I used to be able to add an external hard drive using the twonky DLNA streamer - but it is no longer supported in the new firmware.

But i have a TS-231 and i try to follow the manual install of twonky but don't have linux station package available ...

alternatively you can run kodi on a third party android box to your HDTV. the android box can DLNA to access your QNAP to access it's large storage. Thats another way of doing it :)

i added mediaplayback options in my faq link.
