probably because it's not powerful enough (10bit hevc)

for those files I'd get an nvidia shield (etc)

I have tried with smaller 4K movies , different encoding ... still not playing smoothly.
Such a shame, as it says this model is working with 4K movies.

I got it yesterday, i managed to configure Kodi. It works smoothly.
I need to figure out how to configure plex from shield to use the share from qnap.

But at least kodi works and the quality is amazing.

Easiest option for Plex is just to use Plex Client on the ShieldTV and point to QNAP Plex Server. Since ShieldTV can play everything, Plex Server on QNAP won't need to transcode. IF you are needing remote streaming, then yes you want to enable plex server on the ShieldTV.

At that point you will need to setup SMB sharing on the QNAP. Set a SMB Storage mapping on the ShieldTV under Settings/Storage, and then configure the Plex Server on the ShieldTV to point to the SMB Storage mapping.

Hi Paul,
thanks for reply, I definitely added the SMB share under netwrk storage settings.
The reason why i tried to configure Plex Server on the Shield is because when i tried to use the Plex client and pointed to QNAP Plex server it told me the server is not powerfull enough ( so was still using QNAP resources ).
Hopefully i will have some more time to play with the configuration ... and make it working as I love more PLEX than KODI ...

It looks like there are some optimization opportunities for how Plex sees the android TV client on the Shield TV..

You can try using this "fix" below, which I haven't verified if is still needed on the Plex Server's android config to help. I would read through the whole thread though first and as always, backup any file you are changing.

I managed to configure Plex , it's strange I couldn't find an option to add the folder from the app.
I had to do it through the web interface.

All good now.

the 2015 celeron (and it's gpu) has no support for 10bit hevc ..and the cpu is by far too slow for software decoding

I think your 2016 celeron..might have a 10bit hevc decoder ...not sure..but you give no further info on how you are playing back your media (and media specs)
