QTS not provided as option under Graphics Card "Resource Use" on TVS-472XT

Post by sandwiches »

Model: TVS-472XT
QTS Version: Latest
Plex Version: qpkg/latest (QTS)
CodexPack: Latest
Nvidia Kernal/Drivers: Latest
GPU: GT 1030 LP

Despite the above settings, I am unable to select QTS from the Resource Use dropdown as anticipated.

Is there no QTS support for GPU on this model? If so, why is the GTX 1030 LP listed as "QTS Supported" on your compatibility page?

Please note: I'm a developer and regularly use Docker and other containerization technologies, but for my use case it's not the correct solution as it overcomplicates my automation and adds needless maintenance overhead. Additionally, my stacks have been free of Bill Gates' monstrosity for over a decade and I have no intention of voluntarily entering a madhouse

Plex Transcoding.

Link works perfectly for me, not sure why it's inaccessible to you.

first time I clicked on it, it only showed an error message

so if the card is not assigned to container or vm station, Plex doesnt see it ?

It does not. And according to QTS documentation, the GPU would not be available to QTS without the GPU being assigned to QTS as a resource.

QTS assignment of an external GPU is NOT supported for all models that support external GPU.

I believe that functionality is only supported for models that don’t have embedded GPU’s such as TS-x77, TS-x73, TS-1685, etc.

So that is by design. It isn’t supported on the earlier TVS-x82 family either.

For Plex Transcoding support, you would need to run Plex via either docker or via Win10 VM for NVidia support on the x72.

QNAP should really publish some compatibility matrix ... (they sorta do it with virtualization storage support)

They definitely should, it's borderline false advertising.

Notice how it says "also supports virtualization" not "only." The QNAP lineup is extremely confusing, and would be of service to clarify their lineup in a cohesive fashion. To ebay with this trash heap.

So what are you actually trying to use the graphics card for??

If Plex, you have to have a PlexPass subscription to enable HW transcoding for Plex (regardless of GPU). The embedded GPU in the Intel x72 families support Intel QSV which is supported by Plex for HW transcoding and also doesn't have the 2 HW Transcode limit that the Nvidia 1030 would have (NV limitations on their consumer products).

I just ran into this same issue. I got the 450 power supply to support the GPU on a TVS-1282, then got a RTX 4000 to help with heavy transcoding, but guess what... No QTS mode (why not)? Why only support this on TS models?
I saw I could do a container or VM, but is it worth it? Is having another operating system or more complexities negating the efficiency of just running plex PMS on the QNAP QTS side? I guess I'm weighing whether to return this GPU or not. Not sure its worth it if it only works for container or virtualization station.

I saw this thread too late. I have just bought GT1030 for having HDMI 2.0 in HDStation but cannot use it :(
