TS251+ Suggested Media Server

Hi all,

Just got my new TS251+ 8GB and am wondering what the general consensus was when it comes to the best application for hosting multimedia files (TV Shows and Movies). I see an embedded "Multimedia Services" which has a number of features and am familiar with Plex (I have that running on a small PC that the new TS251+ is replacing).

Any benefit to not using Plex and opting for the embedded multimedia services instead? Or is there a better solution altogether? I know that is a very subjective question.

What do you mean by "hosting" ?

Where are the files going ? .. just streamed in your private LAN ?

Yes...hosting for my local LAN only. TV room, 2 bedrooms...stuff like that...definitely not anything public

I really do like Plex, works great on all my devices and has a nice "netflix" style interface.

I would agree...I really don't have many complaints against Plex...i'm not a huge fan of their player (I personally can't stand the FF and REW functions), but other than that, nothing to complain about.

Does the embedded multimedia services bring anything beyond Plex to the table?

I use the Tizen (Samsung TV) and PMP versions (Windows) .. they do work fine, the new Plex app as well as the browser Players, do not support multichannel audio so I avoid those
