DLNA and thumbnails

Post by jodo2017 »

Hi!
I'm new to QNAP DLNA but have been using Netgear ReadyNAS DLNA for years. I use it for movies and photos
I'm trying to configure DLNA on my new QNAP, added the content and indexed the files.
All movies show upp on my samsung tv, so that is working fine, but...
All photo folders show "no content" on my TV.
If I start generating thumnails, the pictures start appearing on my tv as well, but I can't remember generating thumbnails to be a requirement on my Netgear ReadyNas.
The problem is that i have 100k photos and the thumbnails take over 200GB

So my questions are the following:
  • Do I really need to generate thumbnails for all my photos for them to appear on my TV through DLNA?
  • Does it matter what quality the thumbnails have? (Does the TV show the thumbnail or does it read the actual photo once I select it?)
Firmware 4.4.1.1146
