AudioBook features in QMusic?

Post by CuttingEdgePlumbing »

We have a large collection of auidobooks on a server (training material/self-help), and would like to be able to
a) search via genre or author,
b) resume where we stopped on any file (not just the pause/resume button),
c) browse the files on the server without downloading them first.

Partial Solutions we've found:
a) Podcast Generator ::: Searching within a server is non-existent in most podcatching apps, plus finding an android app which supports chapters within a file is tricky! If chapters are not supported, then each book has to be broken into one file per chapter, which makes the listing of podcasts very long!
b) QMusic ::: Searching works great. Playing restarts at the start of a file whenever you switch albums (books). So if we set it up as one file = one chapter, then it always restarts at the chapter mark. If we set it up so one file = one book, then it restarts the whole book. Very annoying for audiobook listening! Also searching is screwy if you do the one file = one chapter setup, as each result shows ALL the chapters, verses just showing one result representing the whole book. Also does not see chapters within audio files.
c) QFile ::: Searching by filename only (not genre or author). Default streaming player does not understand chapters in the audio files (MP3, M4A/Bs), and does not remember start/stop positions. Workaround is to use a regular audiobook app and point it to the QFile storage, so whenever a file is downloaded by QFile, it shows up in your audiobook app. Works ok, but forces the user to swap between apps all the time to browse or listen.

Does anyone else use their QNap as a audiobook source? Have you found a decent solution?

If other people would like to see this, please go to the "Request a feature form" at https://www.qnap.com/i/useng/support/co ... one&cid=22 and ask for something like the following, in your own words:

The ability to see how much of each file a user has played, and resume from that point by default. (This would be per file, and possibly an option to turn on/off globally in QMusic app, or on the server)

The ability to see/goto chapters within mp3 and M4A/B files.

Final Suggestion:

Before QNap considers implementing these complex features (resume, chapters), would they please consider adding the "Open" or "Open in other app", just as it is in QFile? This would allow us to use other great audiobook apps, while still making use of the features already in QMusic. :-)
