iPhone to QNAP - move photos

Post by 2dangerous »

Hi All,
This may be a noob question, however, I couldn't find much info on it.
I'd like my Photos from iPhone to live on QNAP and free space from iPhone. I know I can sync using Qfile and make a copy. However, I am thinking if I delete a pic on iPhone, it will delete it on the NAS and hence maintain sync.
In Qphoto, I can select all Photos and the do a "Copy to NAS" and then do a Delete Media from device. I think it would work, however, I am not 100%. Also, if I do this, how would I go about syncing new pics that I take automatically? Thinking it'd be a manual task using Qphoto.
Thoughts? Help is appreciated.
Thanks,
2d

PS: If it matters, I have a TVS471 with QTS 4.3

what build?
https://www.qnap.com/en/releasenotes/in ... t_choose=5

latest versions for Qfile and Qphoto i take it?

2:35 into this video they explain about automatically upload from phone to qnap. Sounds to me like a 1 way sync operation from your iphone to a specific folder on the Qnap (not 2 way), meaning it only dumps new files. As such your wondering what the rules are when it does this, whether it would delete files at destination if they don't match on the iphone, or maybe skip files from uploading if the filename already exists. My guess is it won't delete at destination, and it skip files if they exist at location (reason why i say this is because if file name exist destination qnap would usually prompt you what you want to do about it), but yes you should confirm this from someone who does actually know. Or you could test it out and see what it does :) (use a test folder)

Other things you may want to know

Why did Qfile’s auto upload miss some files?

My own experience using qfile so far
Well i only tested on an android smartphone, but i don't see how it would work radically different for the basics.

I connect to qfile via my wireless ac just fine. I can transfer pics and other files between android smartphone and qnap shares.

Files downloaded via Qfile end up in a specific qfile download folder. From there i can relocate it elsewhere on my phone, or i just kept it at the default download location.

Then when i was done with the file, i deleted it. I did not use any sync, so my NAS file was not affected

Sync only applies if your using that feature (Qsync?). I didn't use sync, i just use a one off copy/download.

I believe the advance sync works when using Qsync app (which integrated your smartphone to use the Qsync feature on QNAP to pair folders 2 way usually).

There is an article here explaining the differences between Qfile and Qsync.

There is going to be a live stream soon regarding qsync features, maybe they will cover apps too.

Build 20170901 and yes, latest versions of Qfile and Qphoto on iOS

Thanks for the detailed answer, it is very helpful. I was confused b/w Qfile and QSync and thought they had the same functionality, however, like you mentioned, Qfile won't delete the photos that I delete on my iPhone, so that's exactly what I was looking for.
