Accessing NAS locally on iPad

Post by DanC999 »

Hi,

I’m having issues accessing my NAS locally on my iPad.

I can access it locally on both my iPhone and computer without any issues, and can connect via myqnapcloud using the Qfile app.

When on my iPad I can navigate to our router 192.168.... but it just times out when connecting to the NAS. Weirdly when pinging my iPad from the computer I get no response (even though I’m connected to the network)

The only change since this last worked is that I have moved house and now have a different router. But the fact my iPhone connects without any problems suggests it’s not the router.

Appreciate any help/advice people can give!

Model: TS-251+
Firmware: 4.4.3.1381

iPad Pro iOS 13.6

Thanks,
Dan

Accessing your NAS from the outside is very dangerous .. at least if it's plain exposed to the internet .. so you should really close this hole or risk malware infections

What are all the private IP's involved (NAS,Ipad, etc) ?

I’m trying to access it from my own home network on the iPad while I am at home not as if I was in a different location.

Along the same topic....just curious if anyone is using an old iPad 3 which stopped updating at 10.3.3? After the last Qmanager update on the iPad, the app crashes when opening after seeing the "Loading" in the right pane. I have a ticket open with Qnap but they say they cannot duplicate it. I have requested the previous version of the .ipa hoping they will send it.

So I am able to access it via myqnapcloud but the Qfile app cycles through the options To connect, first attempting locally and then will eventually connect through myqnapcloud. If I use safari to directly go to the 192 local address it times out. When trying the same on my iPhone it takes me directly to the login page of the qnap drive

still .. if it connects through the myqnap cloud your nas is exposed and could be attacked (read up on mal- and ransomware on qnap)

so disable myqnapcloud access..then troubleshoot why you cannot reach the nas via lan

Yeah fully aware of the risks having it enabled, I’ve just turned it on for the time being as a troubleshooting measure when it was first not working.

With it turned off I still get the same issue and the iPad cannot connect at all

So the IP's still have not been disclosed .. as in my original question.

So the private ips are as follows

NAS: 192.168.1.90
iPad 192.168.1.106
iPhone 192.168.1.86
Pc 192.168.1.95

OK .. now check on the QNAP if the 192.168.1.106 has been added to the block list on the QNAP

Nothing on the block list, completely empty.
Thought it may have been blocked after failed Login attempts but that is only set to block for 5 minutes.

As I do not own any Apple products.. troubleshooting such device is not really my expertise...

So the Ipad is in the correct subnet and is also not on the blocklist, but it works for other Apple devices.

Can you reach the webfrontend of your NAS from the Ipad browser ?

No, I managed to briefly connect to the web front end yesterday for about 5 minutes but then it went back to not being able to connect.

Doing arp on my PC it cannot see the IP address for my iPad.
I tested on a laptop on my home network and it can ping my iPad and see it as expected.

Any other settings on the router that could block the Ipad? ( guest separation, block)
