QNAP Vsphere Client Plugin/Vcenter 7.0.3 Install Fail

Post by MotorN »

Is anyone aware of compatibility issues? It installs on Vcenter 7.0.2 but not 7.0.3.

QNAP's initial reply to my ticket was that my unit was not compatible. Now they want me to send logs and allow remote access.............

TIA

No info about NAS or firmware was given, hard to say.

If it is the TS-653D from other post of yours, vSphere 7.0 should be supported

TS-453D
FW: 5.0.0.1986
Plugin 5.1.4.44
Vcenter 7.0.2

I tried installing the previous plugin version and the installer said I need QTS 4.2.0 or higher meanwhile I have version 5.

Seems like a bug then, you would have to work with QNAP so they can investigate

To misquote dolbyman - QNAP don't (often) come here - you will need to raise a support ticket to get more information.

I managed to get the plugin to install on vCenter - 7.0.3.00500

It seems the qnap plugin want to place a config file in

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-ui/server/conf/
and the folders permissions have change at some point.

To get it working I did the following:
  1. SSH to the vCenter
  2. Drop in to the shell:

    Code: Select all

    shell
  3. Modify the folder permisions:

    Code: Select all

    cd /usr/lib/vmware-vsphere-ui/server/
    chmod -R 777 conf/
  4. Install the qnap plugin via the install utility
A couple of things to note:
  • Upgrading to vCenter - 7.0.3.00600 breaks the plugin fully
  • I don't advise making the above change on a production system, better to contact qnap support

QNAP have released an update:

https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/utilities/en ... tes=VMware

I can confirm it works on 7.0.3.00500, but still fails on 7.0.3.00600

update 5.1.5.57 also fails on VC 7.0.3.00800. Very, very, annoying.
Note: permissions trick on conf folder didn't help either
