QNAP NAS model for iSCSI in ESXi 6.7

Post by adiazg »

Hi all.

I'm looking for a QNAP NAS compatible model for storage server with an ESXi 6.7 version.

Communication must be done with iSCSI protocol. Many LUNS at the same time desireable.

Can anyone suggest me a verified model that suites prior requirements?

I don´t know if TS 4xx series (431, 429, etc.) would be compatible.

Many thanks.

ESXi 6.7 is rather old.
Anyhow, why do you think QNAP is not compatible with iSCSI?
Did you check at VMware site if a QNAP is listed in compatibilty list?

Yes, I know 6.7 is old, but my hardware doesn´t support any newer version. It's not a production environment, it's my own lab.

I didn´t say Qnap is not iSCSI compatible (I know Qnap comes with iSCSI protocol implemented). I'm not pretty sure this iSCSI implementation is fully compatible with ESXi 6.7 in all QNAP models. This is my doubt (for example, my NETGEAR NAS is giving me a lot of problems for implementing iSCSI volume connections)

Taking a look to ESXi, HCL it shows much QNAP models, but not all of them (only models for running ESXi server inside???). This is the reason why i launch this question. If you are aware all QNAP iSCSI implementations are fully ESXi compatible, it would be nice for me.

Thanks a lot.

I did connect a QNAP with ESXi 5.5 (very old) and 6.x (I cant remember exact version), no problems at all.
Both have been using iSCSI (and one nfs too).

Also I did connect a QNAP to multiple Linux and MS hosts running iSCSI initiators without any issues.
So I am rather sure there will be no issue.
What I didnt checked was using jumbo frames because my LAN is only 1GB/s.

Ok, many many thanks.

Finally I've decided to purchase a second-hand TS-453a NAS. I will receive it in the next few days.
This NAS has 4 NICS. I still don´t know how could I use all of them. Probably 2 different subnets and NIC teaming one by one for each subnet.

REgards.
