iSCSI reformats LÜN if LÜN name is chaned.

Post by robinaspey »

Hi,
Ï have created two LUNs on a synology and ts420. I have a ts253 connecting to the targets.

I note that if I have the targets disabled but change the LUN names the ts253 appears to start
reformatting the remote target LUNs without asking. These have chap permissions set on the
target.

Am I doing something wrong and is there a way around this ? It seems very worrying that
this is such a potentially easy way to lose a lot of data. FW is 4.1.4/20150910 as I dont like anything
since then.

I have remounted the target I was testing that was saying it was formatting itself again and the
test data is there. Is this a bug because reformatting if that is what has happened has not lost
the data.

Impossible, you cannot be stating everything. Do you mean initializing?
Have you connected to two different hosts? You know you cannot connect to more than one host concurrently unless in a VM cluster
Formatting is something you have to start yourself.

@storageman: I dont know if it says anywhere but i have been connecting to more than one host at a time although it seems to fall
over now and then. Possibly thats the reason.

iscsi is block level storage ...like you can't share direct access to one hdd with several computers
