ESX 6.7 and iSCSi

Post by jhaines »

Hi,

I have two ESXi 6.7 servers and want them both to use my QNAP, can I get both ESXi 6.7 servers to attach to one iSCSI LUN on the QNAP, or do I have to create two ISCSI LUNs on the QNAP?

Regards

never share block storage LUNs to more than one client at a time

so you would have to create two LUNs

Hi, jhaines
Yes you can easily share the LUNs between multiple ESXi hosts.
We run 3 ESXi 6.7 and 7.0 hosts that access multiple shared LUNs on QNAPs.
How would you otherwise be able to create a cluster that can access the same datastores?
Don't forget to set the ACL for each host so they can access the Targets.

Been using QNAP for years in production in the same setup; it works perfectly fine. Just make sure your ESXi hosts live on the same iSCSI network at your QNAP and you can set up both ESXi hosts to use one LUN on the QNAP and then you can create a datastore off of this LUN.
