Hi,
when addind a storage (Disk/LUN) under VMWare Infrastructure, the Add Storage Wizard didn't see anything in Device Location.
I'm using 3.2 firmware. Here are my parameters :
Enable iSCSI Target Service : Yes
iSCSI Service Port: 3260
EXSILUN (iqn.2004-04.com.qnap:ts-439u:iscsi.esxilun.bd4670) Ready
id:0 - LUN1 ( 300.00 GB) Enabled
I've tried to add NFS but it didn't worked too :/
("NFS Error: Unable to Mount filesystem: Unable to connect to NFS Server")
Last question : If I buy tomorrow another server for redundancy. Is it possible to share the same storage like a SAN so I can run half VM on one server & the others on the other server ?
Where's the mistake ?
Thanks,
Vincent

[QNAPDavid]There may lots of reasons cause this. I suggest to check the network configuration first, especially the vmkernel port.

[QNAPDavid] YES, several VMware hosts can use the same NAS as a shared datastore via NFS or iSCSI
Where's the mistake ?
Thanks,
Vincent

Re: VMWare ESXi 3.5 b199239 + iSCSI + TS-439U-RP
IT WORKS!
Here's the procedure :
1: QNAP
Go to Disk Management->iSCSI
Pane : Portal Management :
Activate 'Enable iSCSI Target Service' on port 3260
Pane : Target Management :
Use the wizard to create a new 'virtual disk like'. It's better to use ' Instant Allocation' than 'Thin-Provisioning'.
Don't forget that ESXi allocate disk space when Virtual Machine is created.
This space can contain multiple LUNs but for most of us, once is enough.
Use CHAP authentification with a strong password (min : 12 characters).
Create your LUN using total size.
2 : Verification
Use Windows 7/Vista to check iSCSI.
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> iSCSI initiator.
In the dialog box, specify IP of QNAP as target (in group box Quick Connect).
Check that listbox in Targets Found contain your iSCSI drive
3: VMWare ESXi 3.5 configuration
In infrastructure console, go to pane 'Configuration'-> Storage adapter, select iSCSI software adapter click on Properties.
In dialogbox, click on configure, check Enable, finish by clicking OK.
In previous dialog, go to Dynamic Discovery pane and add QNAPIP address.
Go to CHAP authentification and configure it as like as QNAP in part 1.
Then close dialog.
A message may appear to refresh iSCSI targets, say Yes.
Go to 'Configuration'->Storage, click Add Storage, select Disk/LUN and follow indications. Define a name for storage.
After a few seconds, you should see it in storage list.
(Some details may be missing because, after association between ESXI & QNAP, some parameters can't be accessed. So if someone wan't to take screenshots, do it during configuration ;p)
