New QuTS Hero systems & ECC RAM - registered vs unbuffered?

Post by Poochnas95 » Wed Feb 24, 2021 3:56 am

Do the new ZFS QuTS units require unbuffered memory? Or will registered work well too? I purchased the TVS-H1288x along with sticks of registered memory but someone told me it will probably not work.

you can only try. very little info out there as yet.

specs only show UDIMM .

default is: 16 GB ECC UDIMM DDR4 (2 x 8 GB)

QNAPs own memory is listed here: https://shop.qnap.com/index.php?route=p ... ory_id=582

Nope I have my TVS-673e at 64gb RAM.

It was the HyperX Impact 2400MHz 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 CL15 SODIMM (Kit of 2) HX424S15IB2K2/32

I purchased them at Amazon

thank you! didn't even think to look on Intel's page. so there it seems to say that for the Xeon W-1250, the memory should be 2666 -- but the QNAP brand RAM for that unit is 3200. should i assume anything above 2666 is a waste of $?

I purchased Teamgroup elite plus ram from Amazon. 2x32 gb kit, 3200mhz pc4-25600 cl22 unbuffered non-ECC 1.2v u-dimm.
I have 2 kits for a max 128 gb of ram and have not had any issues. I stressed the NAS with transcoding and 8 VMs running for 24 hours without issues.
