been following this conversation thank you for sharing your input...

Do you guys think the new W-1300 series will also work??

Xeon W-1390 8/16 2.80GHz 5.20 GHz 80W UHD Graphics P750 $494 est
Xeon W-1370 8/16 2.90 GHz 5.10 GHz 80W UHD Graphics P750 $362 est
Xeon W-1350 6/12 3.30 GHz 5.00 GHz 80W UHD Graphics P750 $255 est

the W-1200

Xeon W-1250 Processor (12M Cache, 3.30 GHz) Launched Q2'20 6 core 4.70 GHz 3.30 GHz 80 W Intel® UHD Graphics P630
Xeon W-1290 Processor (20M Cache, 3.20 GHz) Launched Q2'20 10 core 5.20 GHz 3.20 GHz 80 W Intel® UHD Graphics P630
Xeon W-1270 Processor (16M Cache, 3.40 GHz) Launched Q2'20 8 core 5.00 GHz 3.40 GHz 80 W Intel® UHD Graphics P630

Can someone elaborate if the updated graphics will be utilized and or should someone prefer the extra 2 cores of the previous gen in w-1290.
if you answer broadly people that visit can see and adapt the area that would benefit to their scenario. Maybe the W-1370 is the sweet spot?

thank you very much.

The big difference is the W-1300 as PCIe 4.0 support, that's great! But by the way,not sure this CPU is compatible with the TVS-1x88x motherboard.

I doubt it would work, the microcode family looks different and the memory spec looks different.
Looks like the same socket. You would have to but one and test. It all depends on if the bios supports it and I would wonder on the memory.

Just come across from intel website that W480 chipset/motherboards can support upcoming Xeon W1300 processors with bios upgrade. Some motherboard manufacturers such as ASRock has ready released such bios upgrade for their products….. But Qnap is not a mb manufacturer and I think chance for such upgrade is very slim.

I would agree that the chances of QNAP upgrading the bios to support new CPU’s is none…

I wanted to let anyone who may be thinking about getting a TVS-h1288x and then upgrading it.
I have upgraded mine from the stock CPU to a W-1270 without issues. I have placed a heavy load on her with video transcoding with Plex at the highest setting for 24 plus hours without issues or hear concerns. The upgrade was seamless and very easy.
I looked at the W-1290 which seem to be very hard to find. I also looked at some other higher powered CPUs but following recommendations in the forums I stayed with the same thermal setting. To help with sound I replaced the 3 case fans with Noctua fans and that has cut down on the nose a lot.
Trying to find fans to replace the CPU fans but they seem to be harder to locate ones that will fit.
My “girl” supports my Plex server, 8 mixed VMs (windows and Linux) and several home automation apps. The cpu upgrade has help some with the VMs.
I have upgraded her to 128 GB of ram.
Overall she is a beast. In the setup if I could go back the only change I would make with her setup is I think I would have used standard QTS instead of QTs hero.
I have not seen any benefits and some expect apps are not available for hero, most notable is surveillance station.
Hi!

Can u tell me what noctua fans model can u put inside your server, and also what is the ram that u put.

Thanks

This is awesome info! I'm planning on getting the same.
In regard to the Noctua fans, this is also great news as i think they are far superior.
Just wondering could it could be these for both case and cpu ?
