Mixing HDDs with different recording methods in a RAID0 environment

Post by spicelove7878 »

I am currently running two WD80EFZX-68UW8N0 in RAID 0.
One of the units has failed and will be replaced.
WD80EFBX-EC is a CMR system, is it possible to mix them in a RAID 0 environment?

Both models you have listed are CMR, so you won't be mixing SMR & CMR here. ;)

WD only used SMR on some HDD models upto 6TB. WD models 8TB-and-up are only CMR.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I had assumed that all WD RED models had the same recording method.
I was able to solve the problem.

For posterity's sake, if you know, is there a problem with a RAID configuration with a different recording method?

Drives using SMR are known to be problematic when used as RAID members. Avoid putting SMR drives in your NAS.
