TVS-872XT crashing, anyone have new BIOS?

Post by CiASpook »

I have a TVS-872XT that keeps crashing. Not just crashing, it also does bootloops when it crashes and the display turns unreadable. I have changed the CPU and memory a long time ago, but QNAP support just goes into loop when I create a case that I have to change to QNAP purchased memory. So not much help there :(

Does anyone have a new BIOS for this system? BIOS version Q016AT12 is what I have now. I just want to try and see if a new microcode could solve some of the issues I have.
Production: QNAP TVS-1282T3-i7-64G, 8x Seagate Ironwolf Pro 16TB, 2x Samsung 860EVO 2TB M.2, Corsair H5 SF watercooling, Corsair SF450W PSU and Noctua NF-8A PWM 80mm fans
Backup: QNAP TV-1677X-16G, 12x Seagate Ironwolf Pro 16TB
Problems: QNAP TVS-872XT-i7-64G, 8x Seagate Ironwolf Pro 16TB, 2x Samsung 970EVO Plus 2TB, Noctua fans

Don’t think I’ve seen anyone (XT) update their BIOS. Your issue could be that problem with these models going belly up.

what happens if you boot without the drives?

Can you put the original cpu and memory back in?

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

If I had them I could. But I have had this system for a couple of years now with this setup and now it's starting to go raving mad...

Try reseating the memory.

I have tried reseating, another set off DIMMs, dustblowing the DIMM sockets. As of now it crashes every other day. Just for giggles I removed the thunderbolt card and the M.2 SSDs also (not in use after the cache issues I have had lately also).

Let's see what support says tomorrow about giving me access to a BIOS update or not. They did not want to give me one today.

Yeah I know there's some newer version of the BIOS than what it currently has, the problem is support doesn't want to send them.

"For the BIOS, I am checking it with our Engineers and revert to you when I have the update." is the latest reply I have from support regarding the BIOS...

did you know what version of MB you had prior? Version 1.3 and 107 with serial numbers starting with Q18 and Q19 (build years) had the reboot and the red light of death issues and usually are RMA with a newer MB 2.0. Seeing this is from 2 weeks ago I'm curious if you got your replacement and what eversion is the board? Its under the CPU hear sink and will show without taking anything off but for the cover.

The one I returned was v1.3 and the new (completely new) one I got today has v1.7.
