TS-253 Pro to TS-364 Migration

Post by edwardpoe »

I'm considering my next upgrade. I have a TS-253 Pro running 5.0.0.1986 with a pair of WD Red 6 TB drives in a mirror set. Is it possible or simply move the drives to a new TS-364 running the same firmware release, then add a third WD Red 6 TB drive and convert to RAID 5 on the fly, or must I instead build the new NAS and do a data migration? I do maintain backups of the data, in case of data loss.

Update: I found an article on online RAID migration: https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial ... -migration.
My real question then becomes simply the matter of whether or not I can swap my drives from the TS-253 Pro to the TS-364.

You can check the disk migration compatibility guide: https://www.qnap.com/en/nas-migration?o ... ion=ts-364
Careful to read the notes at the end of the page.

If you're using a legacy volume, I would start from scratch with a storage pool.
And, I hope these WD Reds are CMR.

Yeah, my current WD Reds are like 5 years old, so NOT CMR. After an evening of reading, I'm thinking I'll just get all new drives (may Seagate Ironwolf this time), spin up a new NAS, and migrate my apps and data. Thanks for the response, friend.
