How to keep/restore settings if I re-do my NAS?
My NAS is installed, but I made a mistake to make "static" volume instead of "thin". I must redo all - but I want to keep the settings. The HDD data themselves are backupped, thats not matter, but I want to keep my well configured virtual machines, SMB settings, user accesses... how to backup them all?

No way! Start over.
The Backup/Restore option in GUI
1. Do only backup the NAS settings, but also including raid configuration. So most likely the "static" disk configuration is saved as well.
2. Do not backup most app settings! And definitly no VM.
But the VMs are just nothing else than files you can backup.
The settings in VS you need to save by yourself (i.e. screenshot or lookup in any .conf).
Users are requesting such a "bare-metal-backup" since years, but QNAP is more interested in new features (which mostly do not run as desired... ).
Regards

although, no need to start over, you can remove the static volume and create a new storage pool and then the (thin) volume(s), settings will stay intact

Oops, sorry, yes, I was mistaken.
I was thinking of a static raid group instead of a static volume.
Anyhow: why creating a new pool? Missing information here is which kind of raid was created.

Re: How to keep/restore settings if I re-do my NAS?
I want to have "thin/thick (not sure which)" volume, because I want to have versioning. Right now I have "static" because it was the fastest, they said...
Well, uhh... kind of raid? "Raid group 1" and it consists the 2 disks. Sorry I cant describe any exacter. The essential thing is, I have 2 SSD, 8 TB - and I also see 8 TB all in all, not 8+8 so they must be treated together. The two disks are mirrored.

In Storage&Snapshots you can see if you created a "static raidgroup" or a pool.

Re: How to keep/restore settings if I re-do my NAS?
Thanks for the patience, I will try but its hard because my NAS is operating on my native language, so its unsure what is what.
this is my "store snapshot", "overview" and at the right its saying "no storage file" (I guess this must be the "pool").
And I cant even add anything, because I cant change a disk:
But if "dlbyman" is sure that remove static volume and create the thin volume will be just fine, then Im glad, I just thought deleting/reformatting disks will reset NAS settings too (I thought they are stored on disks too)

No way to read what is written there .
For screenshots, please switch GUI language to English. You can set your native tongue after screenshots have been taken.

As soon as the static volume is removed you should have two disks available to create a new pool
