TS-451 RAM Upgrade

Post by honkin »

Hi
I am wanting to upgrade my TS-451 NAS from the RAM that came with it to the 8Gb limit, but just wondered if there are any pitfalls as to exact RAM to get. Yes, it will be DDR3L, but have seen 1600 along with PC3L 12800, 12800S and so on and just wanted to get the best compatible RAM I can.

If anyone has this model and has upgraded, I'd be interested in what you chose and how it is performing

Regards

In addition to existing information on the topic, you may want to examine what you are running to see if it will actually make a difference. For basic NAS functions, such as simple file sharing, additional memory (beyond 8GB) likely won't do much. So, what is it that you are trying to resolve?

I only use the NAS for storage of tv show, movies and music and play directly from it. With 4Gb RAM, there are times when playback of a movie or tv show is not smooth and I hoped increasing the RAM might assist

Thanks for your reply dolbyman
I had already done some searching via the search function and found many threads on other NAS boxes than the TS-451, with comments by someone using a TS-451 on how much RAM they have. I wasn't going to search for ages, but out of 10 or 15 or so threads I viewed, not a single one mentioned exactly what type of RAM they used, which was why I asked.

One guy even claimed he was running 16Gb of RAM in his TS-451, though the spec says 8Gb is the limit, so would love to know how that is achieved and don't want to buy incompatible sticks.

cheers
