QTS or QuTS HERO

Post by Buzzard#1 »

I purchased a TS-473A to replace the TS-451 that died a sudden death a few days ago and when I was migrating my drives I noticed that the unit came with QuTS Hero installed. I would like to use QuTS Hero but don't know if it's worth reinitializing the drives with QTS. Are there any differences between the two? Would I be better off with QuTS Hero? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

QuTS with ZFS have advantages and disadvantages (forum search) ..the data on the disks will be lost if you crossmove the OS (QuTS <>QTS)

quts hero models tend to be pricier than qts models.

on the other hand, quts hero has openzfs, whereas qts is stuck on ext4 linux.

some people say that the ext4 has the best performance. but the otherside openzfs has end to end checksum to ensure data integrity.

there info about zfs here

personally i wouldn't mind paying a bit extra (within reason) for a zfs nas.
