Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
I have just installed 2x8G Crucials in a 253D that have slightly different part numbers:
CT8G4SFS824A.C8FDD and CT8G4SFS824A.C8FR
I had one already that was bought earlier this year. Second one just new today.
dmidecode reports that just firmwares are different:
G4SFS824A.C8FDD and G4SFS824A.C8FR
NAS boots and seems stable. Not really for critical applications so will be interesting to watch.
It would be nice to have a Linux tool to run in a big-memory VM that would exercise this RAM.
Any suggestions?

Wow what a great article. Did you ever get loaned / gifted any 2 x 16gb modules for testing. I would love to upgrade my 2 x 8b (CT2K8G4SFRA266) to 2 x 16gb but want to make sure they work under load.hopeandnotexpect wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 2:13 pm ...
[*]Note: I have not personally tested any of the Kingston models above yet. Based on the specs, I do expect these to work. I will try to find some time to purchase some of these and test them out, as I have more memory upgrades to do on my other TS-653D's.
...
Note 2: I have personally purchased Crucial CT2K8G4SFS824A and CT2K8G4SFS824A for my NAS systems TS-653D and can confirm that both work. Doing more long-term testing at the moment...
Note 3: I hope to purchase Kingston KVR26S19S8/8 and KVR26S19D8/16 to confirm that they work. I have high confidence that they should, given their intended specs. However, at the time of this writing 3/20/2022, Kingston is more expensive than Crucial, so it just doesn't make sense for me to purchase those.
....
Thanks for all the time you put into this.

Hi, it has been a long time, so I guess you gave up on debugging my Crucial issue. As I did tbh Recently I sold them and bought used CT2K16G4SFD824A. And suprise suprise, it works for around 4 days now! I hate to leave unsolved problems, but this time I feel no regret and enjoy my working 32GB RAMhopeandnotexpect wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 1:21 pm @t0mili, I took a look at your dmesg. The perf interrupts is peculiar, but I can't say that anything stands out otherwise. It occurred to me that your crash is a lot harder to debug in this scenario... I will have to figure out what we can do to get your syslog. I noted that there appears to be a QNAP Syslog Service. I just ordered the Crucial 2x16GB, so I'll let you know how it goes. I am having good experience with the Timetec and Samsung ones I've bought thus far. Will post more info after they run long enough

Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
@hopeandnotexpect, How has the TS-x53D been handling the 2x M471A2K43CB1-CRC RAM? I purchased the same today (used) and hope that they will work on my 453D. Seen a lot of people who have the Synology +920 (and utilizes the same J4125 processor) have had great success. Also confusing how some people get the listed compatible RAMs to work on their NAS while for others it doesn't (QNAP or Synology models)? I updated to the latest firmware and latest BIOS which I would like to mention in case some people of having issues, which this might solve their problem.hopeandnotexpect wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 9:41 amFor fun though, I bought 2x16GB Samsung's (2x M471A2K43CB1-CRC) to test out, as they were cheaper. Good thus far, but still testing. I am getting another set of Crucials later, after they get cheaper hopefully. In the meantime, I might try some Timetec or Teamgroup's later, as they're also cheaper. I'll get back to you on my findings.
In any case, posting to potentially add another RAM to the list of working RAMs for this unit. Will post my results once it arrives.

Hi there and thank you very much for this very informative and helpful guide! I literally just signed up to thank you
I used the CT2K8G4SFS824A which I got cheap, and installed it before the first boot up of my new 453D, worked like a charm!

Huge thanks to the author for this comprehensive information!
I was wondering if anybody tested the following memory kits for compatibility with TS-253D NAS:
G.Skill F4-2400C16D-8GRS (http://www.gskill.com/specification/2/1 ... cification)
Corsair CMSX8GX4M2A2400C16 (https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Categorie ... M2A2400C16)
Should I expect any issues when installing one of these?

Hello.
I have ts251d-2GB and I have such memory in it Adata (screen) wants to insert 2x4GB, which I have to buy to fit. Adata is nowhere to be found and I do not know what a replacement could be. Thx

Hello,
Do the guidelines outlined in the OP concerning Single/Dual Rank modules also apply to TS-664/TS-464 models (Intel Jasper Lake Celeron N5095/N5105 CPUs) ?
https://www.qnap.com/en-me/product/ts-6 ... s/hardware
Thanks!

Sorry folks. I have a toddler at home, so I spend my oodles of copious free time with him when I can . I'm checking in to see if I can help answer some questions, hopefully not too late for some.
Glad things worked out for you guys. I will double-cross-check the models also to see which ones to add as confirmed. Thanks you guys.
old_spice wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:22 amJust installed it. I gotta say, man that disassembly was easy. Just 2 screws, and everything slides off. You can access the 2 RAM slots with ease. So I removed the factory installed RAM stick from Adata, and added the CT2K8G4SFS824A 2x8gb sticks to slot 1 and 2. Assembled the NAS again, including harddrives and started it up. Works like a charm right away. Thanks for all the information in this topic! Never had such an easy install without any hickups.

@Kemistry01, Yes, in theory, those should work. One thing to note: based on my experience, timing can sometimes slightly change. In most cases, it's not a problem because the clocking should be following the DDR4 standard. That said, HW can sometimes be tricky and catch you off-guard otherwise. In general, anything that hogs memory is good. Tools include: Passmark memroy benchmarks. Or, for real-world use-cases, try video conversion software.Kemistry01 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 3:50 pm I have just installed 2x8G Crucials in a 253D that have slightly different part numbers:

@RobHyde, My pleasure. As I have indicated in the article, don't use CT2K8G4SFRA266. The SFRA in the model string indicates that it's up to Crucial to decide which ones to use. If luck does not go your way and you end up 1Rx16, you'll regret it and have to return it whilst purchasing a new one that matches the model number strings. Check my original post/guide for the details.
@t0mmili, sorry. I admit I forgot about this, though I should point out that I did chat with my co-workers/friends. And, they indicated that there could be some slight off-timings that are making it unstable. They were thinking that upgrading FW on the RAM would be the only remedy, which you can't do manually. That said, you got your new set, so I'm happy to hear it's working well. Cheers!t0mmili wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 3:59 am Hi, it has been a long time, so I guess you gave up on debugging my Crucial issue. As I did tbh Recently I sold them and bought used CT2K16G4SFD824A. @jpapadami, in theory, that should work. I quickly checked the specs, and it's a 16GB 2Rx8 SODIMM module.jpapadami wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 6:11 pm @hopeandnotexpect, How has the TS-x53D been handling the 2x M471A2K43CB1-CRC RAM? @simo78, this is unexpected. Installing a 1Rx16 should only give you half it's capacity for use (or not be usable). Can you double check how you have this set up? What is the other RAM module in the NAS? Something isn't adding up here...
@Multitude, I was not able to quickly find detailed specs that can show me the rank count etc. Unfortunately, I am not able to tell at this time. I'd have to do a lot deeper digging to find detailed specs for these. If you can find deeper specs specifying the rank etc., I can help you review it.Multitude wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 8:47 pm Huge thanks to the author for this comprehensive information!

@Roxbox, Adata chips are OEM chips that are only sold to OEM vendors. ADATA's consumer line is known as XPG. You will not be able to buy new/un-used Adata chips. If you must use Adata, look on E-Bay or other.
@pcf10 Unfortunately, I was not able to find the full Jasper Lake datasheet from Intel. For some reason, it's not published. I am not sure why. I checked the corresponding Elkhart Lake and see some indication of similarities due to being the same Tremont architecture, but there are striking differences on clock speed, which would affect your memory choice. From what I can find, I can see multiple differences already. In short, the speeds can go up to 2933 Mhz, yet QNAP ships with 2666 Mhz. That's something to watch for. If you follow the other rules I've posted/explained, it will "generally" be a safer bet. Note that the model numbers for memory will definitely be different, given the faster speeds on the memory. Hope this helps.pcf10 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 7:55 pm Hello,

Hello guys! Been using 2x Kingston KCP426SD8/16 for the past 10 days in my TS-653D, all peachy! 32GB of goodness
