QM2-P4-384A Fan Failure?

Post by Hambletw »

Installed a QM2-P4-384A card into my TS-673 about a week ago, so i could add 4 nvme ssd drives as cache.

Last night event log started blowing up with [Hardware Status] Fan 1 on QM2 (PCIe1) failed or was removed.

Has anyone else had problems with the fan on this card failing?

I have the same issue and mine keeps beeping 3 times every 5 minutes. It started after I upgraded the framework to QTS 5.0.1.2234 build 20221201.

Did you update the framework as well?

I fixed my issue. Hopefully it helps others.

I downgraded the framework to a previous version using the guide below. I shut the system down, unplugged and plugged the power cord, and restarted my unit. I no longer have that issue.

It's probably a bug with the newer version. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Latest firmware mentiones the issue and promises hotfix via support or fix in next release

QTS may sometimes report abnormal fan speeds on the QM2 expansion card after a firmware update to QTS 5.0.1.2234. We will soon fix this issue in an upcoming release. Meanwhile, if you encounter this problem, you can contact QNAP Technical Support to implement a workaround.

I just had the same problem. Woke up this morning to a bunch of Hardware failure alerts for the fan in the QM2 expansion card. I took it apart and sure enough the fan wasn't spinning so have been trying to source a replacement. Only now i've realised it likely is fine! I've turned off the alerts to stop the beeping and hopefully QNAP issue a software fix quickly.

Not sure if this is the same error, but I recently started getting the following error after upgrading my firmware - Fans [Hardware Status] Fan 1 on "QM2 (PCIe1)" failed or was removed. I submitted a service ticket with QNAP, and hopefully there is a prompt solution. How can I confirm if this is a false positive or not?

Check the Fan, if it is spinning it's probably a false alert (unless the tach signal went bust on the fan)

Surprisingly, my NAS is back to normal operation - no more beeps and errors.
