I bought a brand new QNAP TVS-H474 and I decided to explore some upgrade options.
I started with the RAM and I am now running the following 64Go kit without any issue:
- Crucial RAM 64Go Kit (2x32Go) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (ref CT2K32G4SFD832A)
This H474 NAS come with a Pentium Gold G7400 and QNAP is currently not offering any CPU alternative for this 4-bays model.
Since I wanted a more powerful CPU without having to jump on a bigger 6 or 8 bays model, I decided to upgrade the CPU myself.
The objective was to find a more powerful CPU from the same 12th Intel gen with the same socket while trying to remain within the same TDP range to avoid any temperature issue.
I have opted for the the i7-12700T:

The installation process was easy and my QNAP TVS-H474 is booting just fine with its brand new i7-12700T.
I still have to monitor if the system is stable (so far so good).
But there is one thing that intrigues me. The System Status recognizes the CPU as a 12700T but describes it with a max speed of 1640 Mhz as you can see the screenshot bellow.
It is normal?
First I don't know what "max speed" QNAP is refereing to. Is it the Max Turbo Frequency ? Performance-core Max Turbo Frequency ? Efficient-core Max Turbo Frequency ?
And whatever it is, it doesn't seem to match any speed I am reading on the 12700T specs sheets:
Maybe it is a BIOS issue and this NAS just doesn't support thic CPU?Total Cores: 12
# of Performance-cores: 8
# of Efficient-cores: 4
Total Threads: 20
Max Turbo Frequency: 4.70 GHz
Intel® Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 Frequency: 4.70 GHz
Performance-core Max Turbo Frequency: 4.60 GHz
Efficient-core Max Turbo Frequency: 3.40 GHz
Performance-core Base Frequency: 1.40 GHz
Efficient-core Base Frequency: 1.00 GHz
Cache 25 MB Intel® Smart Cache
Total L2 Cache: 12 MB
Processor Base Power: 35 W
Maximum Turbo Power: 99 W
Maybe my CPU is deffective?
