TS-251+ Fan Replacement

Post by magictrick »

Hi There

Just had my TS-251+ go down with the dreaded "System Fan 1 Has Failed" message.

I've checked the specs of the NAS and fan but all UK/European sites that might supply a 1 x quiet cooling fan (7cm,12V DC) - FAN-7CM-R01 are out of stock probably because it's an older model now, could one of you guys make a recommendation for an alternative/compatible fan :-)

Cheers in advance

The "dreaded" fan issue is not caused by the fan though

Thanks for the info. I am getting a very loud noise from the fan, so it may well actually be that. If so a suggestion for an alternative/replacement would be great!

the board is the same as any computer (fan connector is 4 pin pwm)

just stay with the same fan size and you should be fine

Ok, I've opened the Enclosure to double check the fan - which required removing the HDD's. Plugged it all back together with HDD's in correct positions and now when I boot the HDD1 RED light is on permanently (HDD2 is off) and I cannot communicate with the NAS over the network. Tried PING, ARP and QFinder

So I cannot get the admin control panel up to do anything at all.

What the heck are my options at this point?

So If my reading of that is correct I'd need to be swapping components and maybe soldering too, which would be beyond my tech expertise.

Does this mean that the enclosure is basically bricked and I need to buy a new one or could I hit the reset button, wipe everything and start again and recover from backups or is that also not an option at this point?

If I did get a new enclosure is it pos to "re-use" my 2 HDD's without having to wipe them and rebuild the RAID 1 mirror in the new kit?

Cheers for all the help

You cannot fix a hardware defect with a software reset

Also the QNAP migration website was mentioned many times in the linked thread
