DOM Apacer replacement
I recently had been running into some rebooting issues with my TS 451 . I tried many things to try to prevent it happening . Anyhow to cut to the chase , I ended up dismantling it as a last ditch attempt to resolve this issue , I did initially notice the DOM chip was not seated flush and after further inspection I have noticed that the header contacts and pads have lifted from the Apacer DOM PCBA
Can I get these replaced by QNAP pre-programmed? Or can we program our own ? I have basic tech knowledge so if someone has done it , that would be useful , otherwise will have to bin the unit .
I would just like a standard dom module so that I can run the factory QTS operating system once more
I have attached an image of the DOM chip , part number is 79700-m512-028-RS

Great thanks for the links , however I failed to explain clearly , there is a physical problem with the DOM flash module , the contact pins on the PCBA have broken away from the headers , along with the pads - so its beyond my repair ability
So my question is , where can I find these DOM modules ? I've searched everywhere but , to no avail
Once I find a blank Module , can I then simply install then use this guide? :

I wonder if once a spare blank DOM is found , if we could follow this guide

like this, see attached ; I did try to solder it but the pads had lifted so is extremely difficult . There are other contacts for USB connection I think ?dolbyman wrote:how does the module look from the other side ? (connector)

Nice find - That looks like it would workdolbyman wrote:you could try one like this

I have read others have got replacement DOM SSD's and installed Linux. So in theory I should be able to install standard Qnap Firmware. I wonder if anyone done this in practice however?

Re: DOM Apacer replacement
So I ordered this one
: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/KingSpec-USB-DOM ... RTM2247626
Will let you all know how it goes . This is a strange thread subject largely not seen before , so hopefully we can determine if someone does have a corrupt DOM flash / Firmware , they could always physically replace it
Oh and Qnap would not offer a replacement Flash disk , not even at a cost - shocking really , they must have a whole load of them

Re: DOM Apacer replacement
Surely Qnap Modders have replaced the Flash DOM Modules in these things ?
There's an old thread here about changing the Flash DOM to an SSD for an older model viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13967&start=15
I have seen 32 GB Flash Dom Modules on Aliexpress , so I can only imagine that you should be able to install any operating system

What I tried
Plan A.
Booting Linux on Live USB with blank DOM installed
Result
. Could not recognize or format blank DOM
Plan B
Clone Original DOM , to a Blank DOM
Result
Connected original DOM to a stripped USB fly lead, mounted in linux then cloned to a temporary USB . Next step is to clone the USB to the New Dom Flash

OK plan B worked
I did manage to attach a stripped USB cable and created a clone - worked like a charm

great that it worked...just very impractical for most...wonder why the direct flash method did not work

Yeah
Was my last option , my linux friend has a look also , he said he could not get write permissions or mount the blank DOM drive .
The Flashed DOM actually has several partitions so we were wondering if the Blank DOM has to be partitioned or prepared separately from the flashing process also ?

Re: DOM Apacer replacement
Can you provide a partition listing? Just curious...
When I have it right, there must be a partition holding the recovery boot for example.
