Tvs-682 Upgrade

Postby Looma » Thu Oct 27, 2016 5:25 pm

Hi Everybody,

I just bought unTVS-682 that I will receive it in a few days. I also bought an Intel CORE I7-6700T to replace the original processor and add 4x16 GB for a total of 64GB (HMA42GR7AFR4N).
I know that if I change the processor warranty will be void, but do this configuration work?
I took care to respect the TDP and the CPU socket : http://ark.intel.com/products/88200/Int ... o-3_60-GHz

Thank you in advance for your answers and advices.

Did you manage to get this configuration to work? Was it possible to upgrade the CPU to an i7 and was the RAM compatible?
I am considering the same configuration if it works. Has anyone tried 2400 MhZ pc-19200 (CT4K16G4DFD824A)

Is there any update from the OP on this? I'm wanting to upgrade to i7 but not sure if it's possible?

Upgraded NAS to an i7 today, so far so good. Very easy upgrade and the system sees the 4/8 cores.

Well so far after 2 days and varied load the system is running fine.
Fans do seem a bit active at times but temperatures are all well within specs.

Hi, what TDP have you used for the TVS-68s CPU upgrade?
Thanks!

Thanks!

I used a 65 watt, i7-6700 8M, BX80662I76700.
I am still using the stock Qnap passive CPU heat sink and so far so good.
I have been pusing it fairly hard, she has 6 windows VMs rung plus PLEX,and so far so good.
I have ordered second fan to go into the fan bracket over the m2 drives.
So,far heat on the CPU doesn't seem high, but the m2 drives seem a bit hot.

The cooler looks good, I am going to order one.
I did not need to cut, modify or make any changes to the case, Qnap hardware on my NAS, I could change it back to factory in just a bit.

I switched to the cooler today for the one listed. Tight fit but I did not modify the case at all.
Watching the tempature now to see how she does.

Well done with the upgrades for now
TVS-682 with i7 6700, 64 GB of Kingston ram, 4 4tb Hitachi drives raid 5, 1 Samsung 2tb SSD for vms , 1 Samsung 1tb SSD for system volume and 2 crucial 512 mb M.2 drives for caching the raid drives.
Using a corsair hydro cooler for the cpu.
Running 6 VMs, and a couple of plex streams, running at 75% or higher and temp is sittin at ~135 all day and stable. CPU fan sits at 800 to 1000 rpm...
