HDD lights constantly flashing - no acces to NAS
On the TS-431 everything seems to work fine until all the harddrive LEDs start flashing constantly and then I have no acces to the NAS anymore. No Login, browser fails. Shown on Router though that it is there.
I can manually shut it off via power button and back on, then I run 'check file system' and all is well for a while, from a few hours to days or weeks.
In the System Logs there is nothing unusual.
Model: TS-431
Firmware : 4.2.2 Build 20161102
Number of HDDs: 4
HDD model: WDC WD5000LPVX-00V0TT0 (SATA)
HDD capacity: 465.76 GB
RAID configuration: Raid 5
Windows 10 or Android App is used to acces NAS

Re: HDD lights contantly flashing - no acces to NAS
when the NAS is unresponsive .. does SSH access still work ?
so you have 4x2.5" WD blue drives (strange choice for drives) but what is your RAID config ? .. what is group 2 ?

I do not know if SSH works, as I don't use it due to lack of knowledge on how to
it's a raid 5 . all drives are in group 2

I guess you had two RAID groups and deleted Nr.1 at one point ?
anyways...
for windows you can use putty for SSH access, default username is admin (and password is the password you have given the user admin)

ok.
I will try that as soon as it starts blinking again,
I had to manually shut off and turn it back on again to get the information that was needed to post here.

Re: HDD lights constantly flashing - no acces to NAS
this time only stayed up for a couple of hours..
seems not accessable by putty
in putty, I put under Hostname
admin@xxx.xxx.xxx.xx (my qnap ip address)
comes up with black screen and no text, green cursor

Re: HDD lights constantly flashing - no acces to NAS
the ip is your private one? (censoring that is unnecessary..because its not routable and most if all not unique)
like 192.168.1.50

Re: HDD lights constantly flashing - no acces to NAS
First post..
I just got a TS-431 myself a week ago and am having TERRIBLE connection problems. Heck, I even ditched my Apple Airport Extreme and got a brand new Linksys WRT3200ACM because I thought maybe Apple's router wasn't playing nice with the Qnap.
No dice.
It'll connect fine after I wipe/restore for a few hours and then suddenly just disappear. I haven't been able to keep the NAS online for more than 24 hours this week before it just goes bye-bye, SSH not working either. I use OSX so I've been SSH'ing through Terminal.
I have two, 3TB WD reds in RAID-1. I'm not at home right now so I can't see my configuration, and I can't log into the NAS at all either remotely.
BTW, does anyone know how to turn the darn thing off/on? If I push the power button nothing happens. If I do the 3-second thing it resets some settings, and the 10 second wipes it. I just want it to shut down and restart. Also, I do not see a "reset" button anywhere on the thing. Only a power and copy button on the front.
The thing was a birthday gift and I hate to have to ask that it be returned.
I'll try and get screen caps and data tonight when I get home.
