[Network UPS] Problems with QNAP Slave configuration

Post by cybergio1974 »

Dear All,

I'm posting this request for help after several attempts which all failed so far.

I have a Synology DiskStation physically connected to an APC Smart-UPS 750 via USB cable.
The DiskStation is detecting the UPS correctly.

On the same network and switch I have a QNAP TS 253 Pro which I would like to configure as UPS networsk slave.
While connected via SSH to the QNAP, I can see the remote UPS via the following command:

Code: Select all

upsc ups@n40l
Where n40l is the remote Synology Server name.

[~] # upsc ups@n40l
battery.charge: 100
battery.charge.low: 10
battery.charge.warning: 50
battery.runtime: 2220
battery.runtime.low: 120
battery.type: PbAc
battery.voltage: 27.1
battery.voltage.nominal: 24.0
device.mfr: American Power Conversion
device.model: Smart-UPS 750
device.serial: 3S1416X01963
device.type: ups
driver.name: usbhid-ups
driver.parameter.pollfreq: 30
driver.parameter.pollinterval: 5
driver.parameter.port: auto
driver.version: SDS5-2-2015Q1branch-5619-150904
driver.version.data: APC HID 0.95
driver.version.internal: 0.38
ups.beeper.status: disabled
ups.delay.shutdown: 20
ups.firmware: UPS 08.8 / ID=18
ups.mfr: American Power Conversion
ups.mfr.date: 2014/04/16
ups.model: Smart-UPS 750
ups.productid: 0003
ups.serial: 3S1416X01963
ups.status: OL
ups.timer.reboot: -1
ups.timer.shutdown: -1
ups.vendorid: 051d

On slave Qnap I edited the ups.conf file as:

Code: Select all

[ups]
driver = snmp-ups
	port = auto
	desc = "n40l"
	pollinterval=10
Agin on slave Qnap I edited the upsmon.conf as:

Code: Select all

MONITOR ups@192.168.2.15 1 monuser secret slave
But when I check in QNAP "External Devices/USB" GUI, I still see no UPS connected.

What am I doing wrong ? Is there any log for UPS monitoring which I can activate on QNAP to track down the issue ?
Cleraly the Synoilogy is reachable via upsc but maybe the Qnap GUI is using a different connection method ?

Thank you so much in advance for your help.
Best Regards,

Is there any reason you are not configuring your NAS as a "Network UPS slave" via the QTS GUI? That's what it's for. ;)

This is for devices attached directly to the NAS. Not networked devices.

Hello,

I also tried the "network ups slave" option but the result does not change.
I also believe that what you wrote is not fully correct.
I should see the remote Ups in the external devices panel even if the ups is a remote one.
I found a video on YouTube showing it:

https://youtu.be/iNn4is7e_nI

At least the green charge levels bar.
Otherwise where should I check from the slave Qnap GUI that the remote Ups was properly recognized and configured?

Then you have a problem. Create a support ticket with QNAP.

Entirely possible. I'm not an expert. And I've not done what you are trying to do.

Yes, you'll see a bar (and only in specific circumstances if using SNMP according to the narrator of that video).

And if you use a compatible UPS and connect it to the NAS, you'll see something like I see on my setup:

Troubleshooting your non-working configuration after you've been manually altering the files is not something I can assist you with. Evidently, you are more knowledgeable about setting up a network slave UPS configuration than I am. I await your solution.

Good luck! :geek:

Hello,

I kept copies of the original configuration files I changed so no problem to roll back in case of any suggestion.
Thank you anyway.
