TS-251+ RAM memory upgrade to 8GB

Post by kili2106 »

Hi,
Currently i have a TS-251+ with 2GB RAM. I am thinking to upgrade it to 8GB, so I would need to install 2x4GB.
could someone confirm if the Kingston 4GB KVR16LS11/4 DD3L memory is compatible with my QNAP? Thinking to purchase two in order to upgrade to 8GB.

thanks!

Update: Yes it is. See http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/searc ... odel=94193

Compatible

*****************************************************

I am also interested in an answer. I feel it would be fine. The specs look the same as crucial site.

Hi jgriffit
I looked at the link you posted for the kingston memory and selected 251 instead of 251+. Kingston doesn't present any memory options for the 251. Do you know if the 251 uses the same memory as the 251+?

Hi,

I just bought a Kingston KCP3L16SS8/4 4GB ram and tried to upgrade my TS-251 with it. Didn't think of checking compatibilities in more detail, since the spec looked to me entirely compatible with the server. Now I see Kingston doesn't claim compatibility; any idea why isn't this working?

QNAP answered me:

Hello Leonardo,

We do not advise it. QNAP asks to install QNAP memory with the QNAP sticker. We have many tickets with sporadic reboots or other problems, when developers see in the dumplogs that the memory is not the one that is supposed to immediately ask for the memory that comes with the NAS to be installed.

Some models come with Kingston, but they are a few, and not their model, the rest are usually trancend, ADATA, and others that I do not know.

I know there are clients that install their memory that is not QNAP and it works correctly, but when they open a case that can be related to memory, the first thing that is asked is to install the modules that came with the NAS.

Best regards,
