If the expansion card is truly a Gen 2, I wouldn't be able to properly utilize the speed of 2 NVME SSD's in RAID 0. This card is supposed to allow us to use the Samsung NVME's correct? I wish WNAP would make the internal slots compatible. They only support the intel cards at an extremely high price so we know the port an handle NVME drives.

Not sure this is the place to raise this question, so feel free to redirect me.

I have been looking at purchasing a pcie card that could provide dual M.2 SSD's in my TS-563 in the pcie x4 slot. Given the TS-563 only has a single pcie x4 slot I'd like to have 2 x 250Gb M.2 SSD drives on a single card so I could load the QTS on the SSD's in a RAID 1 config.

I have looked at a number of pcie x4 dual M.2 cards, both from eBay and manufacturers such as StarTech and Bplus but am not sure which card would work in the TS-563. Also, it appears I am only likely to find dual pcie to M.2 sata cards and not dual pcie to pcie M.2 as it appears these cards require pcie x8 or higher.

Would be interested in the thinking of those of you in the forum knowledgeable on this topic.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Ended up purchasing the card below... so we'll see what it's like. Will add a couple of Samsung 960 M.2 drives and see how it goes.

Are you planning on running the cards in raid 0 or 1? I still don't know if there is enough bandwidth to support raid 0. I personally don't need redundancy since I back up my VM's to my main storage pool.

For me it will be about performance in the TS-563, so I will try RAID 0 and 1. For VM and docker. I also have a TVS-882 which has M.2 slots but they are SATA, so depending on how the QM2 goes I may get one for the TVS-882.

Yea I hear on the performance aspect. I all about performance which is why I am hoping that with the QM2 card I can run RAID 0 on the tvs-882.

I order a card no matter what because I need to offload my VM's from my SSD's. I need those dedicated to running the apps and the OS.

Word of warning if you are considering ordering a QM2 card. I placed my order and at the time the shop listed there being 9 cards in stock. After my order I hadn't heard anything so I sent an email to the QNAP shop. Received an email from the shop people telling me there was a delay in my order as the cards had to be manufactured. I questioned why the shop site listed 9 in 'stock' yet the cards had to be manufactured? The response from the shop people... do you want to cancel your order. WTF?? So be aware when you are ordering.

HAHA sounds about right. I just checked the status and it's still processing. I'm fine right now with waiting for it, but of course they don't hesitate to take our money...

Received my shipping confirmation today. So at least QNAP are true to thier word about shipping.

Now I need to buy some PCIE M.2 drives... was considering Samsung 960 500Gb, but you folks in the USA have such a wealth of great options for M.2 drives. Sadly in Australia we have limited options.

PCIE M.2 drive brand ideas anyone?

I received my card today. Installation was a breeze and the NAS booted up with no issues. I threw in 2 Samsung 960 512 pro's in RAID 0 and have moved my VM's over to the disks.

Everything seems to be working pretty good; however, I'm definitely not getting NVME type of speeds. I am getting roughly 500mb/read and 500mb/write. One thing I noticed when trying to setup the volume, it didn't let me select "Single Static Volume", instead I had to select "Thick Multiple Volume". Not sure if that would have an impact of speeds.

Another thing I noticed is the system is telling me that the current speed is PCIe Gen.2x4, but it also says that the maximum speed is PCIe Gen.2x16.

This is really my first time getting my hands in a NAS so this is kinda new to me. Still trying to figure things out.

What model QNAP are you using? I assume it's a TVS-882? If so what PCIE port did you use?
