TVS-882 and QM2 card

Post by hrvojezg00 »

Hi all,

I can`t price info on the QM2 expansion card for NVMe ssd`s, any news on that? It also doesn`t say on compatibility list if SSD 960 PRO will work on it?

Thanks,
Hrvoje

I asked similar questions to QNAP last week and had the response that the product isn't released yet so no information on availability or price has been announced.
I also have a TVS-x82 that is waiting for one of the QM2-2P10G1T cards as well.

Looks like only the QM2-2P supports PCIe SSDs, which would include the 960 Pro, but all of the others, like the QM2-2S, only support SATA SSDs.

I have also asked this but not as yet heard back from QNAP. So far as I know testing is still on going with these models:

QM2-2S - SATA SSD
QM2-2S10G1T - SATA SSD

QM2-2P - PCIe SSD (NVMe)
QM2-2P10G1T - PCIe SSD (NVMe)

I would however expect the Samsung range of SSD (SATA or PCIe) will work as these are the most likely candidates for most users.

Last week QNAP newsroom said the QM2 cards were "newly-released". I still can't find pricing/availability information though.

That is great, tecrp7!
It did not come up in my search yesterday.

And for reference here is the one I am interested in, with the addition of the 10GBASE-T port

One of the unanswered questions I had for QNAP was if these were PCIe Gen3, but according to the product description they are Gen2 x4 cards.

That gives them a theoretical bandwidth of 2GB/s max vs 4GB/s max if it was on Gen3.
There are lots of factors, but having 2 NVME and 10Gbe on the same x4 Gen2 card could run into some bottleneck issues.

Full duplex on the network alone would consume roughly the all of the available 2GB/s, and each of the two PCIe NVMe SSDs could individually saturate it as well based on some read/write results from the 960 Pro. Having all 3 on one Gen3 card would have been much preferred to reduce that chance.

Perhaps, but Gen3 is supposed to be backwards compatible with Gen2 & 1 slots, just at the slower speeds.

I found that link last week. That is why I posted it because the post here were recent.

I'm not 100% sure yet if NVME M.2 card will fully be supported on the TVS-882 yet. I really would like to take advantage of the NVME speeds and host my VM on those drives.

It's quite possible it slipped passed me in my search.

It looks like it should be compatible with the TVS-882

Not sure if anyone's Mandarin is good enough to extract some details, but this talks a lot about the new QM2 cards starting around the 2h40m mark
