RAM spec questions on TS453B
Just get the TS453B from vendor, My TS453B right now is 4GB version (2x2GB), the spec. showing that this model supports DDR3L SO-dimm RAM. there are questions about RAM, could anyone help to answer?
1. Can I put DDR3 profile instead of DDR3L RAM into TS453B? As the operating voltage different, I have not sure if it works.
2. Can I put the RAM with clock speed lower than 1600khz (let's say 1333khz) into TS453B?
3. Can I use only 1 RAM slot only instead of 2?
4. What is the max. RAM size support in TS453B? As Qnap saying that it supports up to 8GB but I am confusing 8GB means 4GB x 2 or 8GB in single slot

1. probably not
2. you can try
3. sure
4. check what processors .memory controller can handle
side question..planning on doing vm's or what id the extra ram for ?

Thank you very much for answering my questions. Actually, i would like to play vm`s with this nas, and thus i would like to increase the RAM size.
Right now i have 1 4GB ddr3 1333khz ram from my old notebook, if if can be used, i will buy 1 more with the same spec

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
I'm not so sure slower memory will work. The rest of the circuitry is expecting the memory to respond in a certain time. If it doesn't it might produce errors. If it does work it is going to make the system run slower. Why not use memory that match the specifications.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Any RAM (brand or model number or spec) recommend other than QNAP one? Must be ADATA?
16G (8G x 2) DDR3L-1600 and DDR3L-1866 both work on TS453B and TS653B?
2G+8G ram also work?

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Just bought and added one Kingston KVR16LS11/8 8GB DDR3L 1600 to my 653B which taken out one original 2GB DDR3L 1866.
Total 10Gb. Works ok so far!!!! Performance improved slight which due to less usage in swap memory.
Will try to upgrade to 16G total once I got money for new HDD first.

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Thanks for replying your findings, I just got the 653B 4GB today and am hoping to upgrade to 16GB for the same reason (VM's). Glad to hear it recognized 10GB, I imagine 16GB should also work. Please update if you are able to upgrade before me!vkhmok wrote:Just bought and added one Kingston KVR16LS11/8 8GB DDR3L 1600 to my 653B which taken out one original 2GB DDR3L 1866.

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
I was thinking WOW, great ,, then I used google.
And I got Ice water in my blood, was ready to order 16Gb..
Intel spec sheet.
https://ark.intel.com/products/95594/In ... to-2_3-GHz
That is the onboard CPU unit, according to QNAP.
Clearly says 8GB max,, maybe faster DDR4L ram is possible to get later.. ??
So yes, I guess it can detect and display higher numbers on the amount of RAM, but probably not use it to make the system go faster,,
So I'm little bit disappointed.

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Ok... some QNAP models have been known to work with 16GB, even though QNAP/Intel specify 8GB. This is an "unsupported" configuration and you use at your own risk. I don't know if the 653b is one of them, but it appears that is may be.etotore wrote:I was thinking WOW, great ,, then I used google.

The system is designed for DDR3, you CAN'T use DDR in DDR3 systems (different slot config, specs/timing/etc.) WON'T WORK!!
QNAP OS is designed to run in minimal memory (1-2GB). Other functions such as containers/vm's/etc. will use/need additional memory. So there is benefit to upgrading the memory.

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Good luck on running VMs , the display is via console so you will find ANYTHING that uses graphics is totally useless , I`ve tried running windows and Linux desktop and you will find it unusable , BUT Linux headless that is a different matter , I run BT and a RSS checker on debian Linux headless which uses less than 1% cpu .tempaccount wrote:Thank you very much for answering my questions. So if you think it will run a VM like your notebook you will be sadly disappointed !!!!!

After running it for 1 month and more..... so far no problem....Maximilious wrote:Thanks for replying your findings, I just got the 653B 4GB today and am hoping to upgrade to 16GB for the same reason (VM's). System improved due to increase in RAM... Less disk swapping (almost none)......

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Thnx for the info.. so 1x 8 GB works fine in combination with 1x 2GB. I'm wondering of 2x 8GB is gonna work fine...

Re: RAM spec questions on TS453B
Hello,
Does any one has test a version a 2X4Gb memory upgrade for TS-453B ?
I'm running the original 2X2Gb ADATA ADDS186622G13-BSSE memory and woul lik to upgrage to a 8Gb = 2x4Gb version at lowest cost that the original Qnap website proposal 110Usd each !
Version 1866Mhz Preferred than 1600 Mhz.
Thanks for any feedback
