Kingston or Crucial RAMs compatible with TS-251?

Post by jintonic5 »

I'm looking at Crucial and Kingston 8GB RAMs for TS-251.
- Ref. for Crucial: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3L-128 ... C3L+SODIMM
- Ref. for Kingston: https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technol ... C3L+SODIMM

I haven't bought the machine yet but I'm trying to get the very basic 1GB RAM model and upgrade it to 8GB.
After digging in bit in this forum, I noticed that both RAMs may not work properly on TS-251. I just wanted to double check that what I understood from other postings was true.

I am using that Crucial 4GB DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin - CT51264BF160B kit in my 251 and also in my 253 for more than 2 years without any trouble.

I've been told by my Qnap supplier that that Crucial 8GB DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204pin 1.35V/1.5V is the only way you can get 16GB on your TS 251. Kingston or anything else won't work in order to get 16Gb RAM total. I've ordered 2 modules yesterday. Will post again once installed. Cheers

hey there,
I'm thinking of getting ts-251 however my local supplier goes only with 1 gig ram product. This is why simultaneously I would need to get additional memory card for my basic virtualisation features.
However according to that page - https://www.qnap.com/en-uk/support/con_ ... ?cid=9#5_4, they does only support up to 8 gig. What would happen if I'd replace standard 1 gig memory with additional 4 gig and place this 1 gig into secondary port. Would that work, will I get 5 gig of memory at the end?
I've also posted my comment in here as I'm interested with the result of comensart findings.

Wont work Awentland. Your NAS will not boot. Modules need to be of same capacity. Although officially not supported, 2x 8GB will also work according to reports here on the forum.
