TVS-EC1080+ - expansion options

Post by sherman »

Hi there,

I am trying to find some options around expanding my TVS-EC1080+ since the REXP-1000 PRO units seems to be EOL and I don't want to swap the whole NAS just because QNAP seems to change their product portfolio too frequently :(

Does anyone have experience with adding external (3rd) party SAS or USB3 shelves to the EC1080+ NAS systems? Would the Qnap REXP-1220U-RP or other units maybe work too?

Thanks,

Sherman

Hi Sherman,
I have a TVS-EC880 and a REXP-1000 Pro units as well.
I was in the same situation has you when thinking buying another expansion unit before they're not available anymore. But in my research I talk to a representative QNAP and he told me that QNAP will always provide a solution replacement for this expansion unit if it's not available anymore.
Has per my research, there was no other way to expand this NAS.
If you have more information, please share it to me ;)

Is it? Why does it seem so?

It's listed as an active product on the Qnap site, it's listed as still being sold and supported on the product support status page, it seems orderable at several resellers:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss ... P-1000+Pro
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... osure.html

RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!
